Job Description:

Your Mission

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal level 3D Character Artist to help craft a new, unannounced game. In this role, you will breathe life into characters by creating and texturing both high- and low-poly models. Your expertise in sculpting, your artistic vision, and your knowledge of anatomy, form, and color will drive character and skin development.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and enhance the art team with your creative and savvy eye for detail
  • Partner with concept artists, animators, designers and engineers to create extremely polished and high-quality characters, creatures, and weapons
  • Partner with other leads and directors to meet visual, technical, and design standards
  • Model, sculpt, and texture high-quality assets that help set the visual benchmark
  • Help research and develop art workflow that allows the team to achieve its goals at scale
  • Work with external partners and manage the quality of incoming art assets by giving detailed feedback and paint-overs, ensuring the development team receives top-quality material
  • Combine traditional craftsmanship with next-generation materials to realize our distinctive stylized vision
  • Create best practice guidelines
  • Mentor and educate junior artists

Minimum Requirements

Experience

  • 8+ years’ experience working as a character artist in game development
  • Expert in technical art production, modeling, texturing, rendering, and UV unwrapping workflows

Skills & Knowledge

  • Proficient with modern game-authoring technique.
  • Ability to identify and solve technical challenges of building art for game features

Extra Points

  • Experience working with AAA game engines, e.g. Unity, Unreal, etc.
  • Experience with mobile game development
  • Experience shipping a game (any platform)
  • 2D concepting skills
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Blizzard’s art styles

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $116,800.00 - $216,000.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
