Principal AI/ML Engineer

As a Principal AI/ML Engineer, you will be instrumental in shaping the direction of our AI initiatives. You'll thrive in an environment where you can leverage your deep expertise to architect, develop, and deploy cutting-edge AI and ML solutions that directly address critical product needs and challenges. Your ability to translate product requirements into robust and scalable AI solutions will be crucial to our success.

This is a hybrid role in our Ljubljana office, or a remote role within the CET +/-1 time zone.

Your responsibilities:

• Drive AI execution and champion AI adoption across the engineering population by collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for AI integration, and fostering a culture of AI innovation.
• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain high-quality, scalable AI/ML solutions, driving technical excellence in our AI/ML practices and ensuring adherence to best engineering standards.
• Collaborate with the rest of the AI team and the product teams to understand needs, challenges, KPIs, and data, and translate these into effective AI solutions.
• Ensure model performance through continuous monitoring, analysis, and improvement based on product evolution and performance data.
• Evaluate AI technologies by staying abreast of advancements and assessing their potential to benefit our products and strategy.
• Support AI team’s growth by actively participating in the hiring process, contributing to the onboarding and mentorship of new team members, and fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the AI team.

What you bring to the team: 

• University degree in Computer Science, ML, AI, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• 8+ years of experience in developing, deploying, and scaling ML models and AI solutions in a production environment.
• Proven experience collaborating effectively with product and engineering teams.
• Demonstrated experience in monitoring, analyzing, and improving the performance of ML models in production, and adopting new AI/ML technologies. 
• Significant experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP) and their AI/ML services.
• Strong proficiency with AI/ML programming languages, frameworks and libraries (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
• Deep understanding of ML algorithms, statistical modeling, and data analysis techniques.
• Solid understanding of data engineering principles and experience with data pipelines and data processing tools.
• Familiarity with MLOps practices and tools (e.g., MLFlow) for CI/CD, and monitoring of ML systems.
• Excellent understanding of software engineering principles and best practices.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion and work independently.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated experience in providing technical leadership and guidance to others.
• Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.

• You have experience in building AI/ML capability from the ground up.
• You have experience working on AI/ML solutions that directly impact product KPIs and user experience.
• You are familiar with a wide range of AI domains beyond classical ML (e.g., GenAI, computer vision).
• You have experience with containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• You have experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
