Summary

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in the merger of two major online car marketplaces. Responsibilities include simplifying existing tools, improving modularity, addressing technical debt, proposing improvements, actively participating in team discussions and decision-making, and driving initiatives. You will work closely with a team of Senior Engineers, a Product Manager, and an Engineering Manager, primarily during Canadian working hours. The role requires expertise in AWS (Glue, Athena), Python, PySpark, GCP, SQL, Airflow, and data streaming frameworks (Kafka, Firehose). You will design, build, and maintain data pipelines and platforms, leveraging strong data modeling skills and industry best practices.

About the project:

Our customer is the European online car market with over 30 million monthly users, with a market presence in 18 countries. The company is now merging with a similar company in Canada and needs support on this way. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of online car markets and enhancing the user experience for millions of car buyers and sellers.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Expertise in AWS services, with a strong focus on Glue and Athena.
  • Proficient in Python, PySpark, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Skilled in SQL, Airflow, and data streaming frameworks (e.g., Kafka, Firehose).
  • Proven experience in designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain data platforms, beyond just usage.
  • Strong proficiency in data modeling techniques and industry best practices.
  • Upper-intermediate English proficiency required.

Responsibilities:
