The Senior FX Artist creates realistic and stylized effects for film, television, and advertising, from concept to final render. Responsibilities include finalizing shots using existing or self-created tools (hero and creature FX), meeting deadlines, collaborating with other artists, communicating with other departments, mentoring junior artists, and researching new software and methods. The role requires strong Houdini skills and a solid understanding of the VFX pipeline. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who can work effectively in a remote team environment.

About You

The Senior FX Artist is responsible for creating realistic and stylized effects from initial concept through to final rendering. These effects will range from liquid and smoke simulations to abstract particle and procedural geometry effects.

Your Role

  • Finalize shots driving existing tools or creating your own solutions, including hero and creature FX to accomplish shot narratives.
  • Meet project milestones and deadlines on time.
  • Collaborate with other artists to share knowledge and techniques.
  • Communicate with other departments to receive feedback and resolve shot issues.
  • Assist members of the FX team to learn and grow their skills by providing informal feedback, tips and tricks, and encouragement.
  • Research software and methods for increased productivity and efficiency
  • Mentor junior artists and set a positive example for the team.

Your Qualifications

  • 5+ years of FX experience in commercials, film or TV
  • Strong understanding of multiple aspects of the VFX pipeline
  • Skilled knowledge of Houdini; Maya and Nuke knowledge is a plus
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • Ability to take direction well, collaborate effectively in a team, and perform under tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of various aspects of the VFX pipeline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Capable of working collaboratively in a remote team environment.
  • Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize work across multiple tasks.

Salary Range: $49.00 - $62.50 per hour. 

This range denotes the minimum and maximum compensation limits for this role within the province of British Columbia, adhering to local legal requirements. It's essential to recognize that the salary range for this position may vary when compared to markets outside of British Columbia, with potential variations in both lower and higher figures. The base pay offered is contingent upon factors including internal equity assessments and elements such as the candidate's geographic location, job-related expertise, skills, experience, and other pertinent qualifications.
