NYT Games is not a traditional gaming company. We are excited by proactive, consumer-first leaders who use their industry experience, pattern-matching, and ability to steer project direction. While prior games/puzzles industry experience is required, you must also uphold essential NYT values like trust, curiosity, and empathy, recognizing that independent journalism is core to everything we do.

This role will report to the VP of Product, NYT Games and can be based in our New York City headquarters or remote in the United States.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop concise and detailed specifications to guide product development and ensure understanding and agreement across teams

  • Maintain open communication with leadership and stakeholders, providing regular updates, presenting insights, and offering strategic recommendations

  • Assess the competitive landscape, evaluate potential strategic partnerships, and identify emerging trends to ensure the team remains at the forefront of the gaming industry

  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

  • Strategic leadership experience on a game development team

  • Expertise in leveraging data to inform decision-making and a talent with data interpretation to uncover insights

  • Experience presenting work to executives and game teams

  • Experience balancing long-term strategy with getting features out the door

  • Experience communicating complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for games and puzzles, particularly mobile gaming. You understand the mobile gaming landscape, including the latest trends, and popular genres.

  • Expertise in the unique challenges and opportunities of developing and launching mobile games, and ways to improve the player experience.
