The Disney Branded Television (DBT) group is looking for a Senior Real Time Pipeline Engineer to develop and support solutions across DBT: Productions and Development. The engineer will be responsible for automating Production Application processes, mainly supporting the production Unreal Engine / Perforce pipeline used by DBT to produce its digital production products. Responsibilities include working closely with product developers, implementing complex hosting solutions, creating new technologies, supporting CI/CD pipelines, delivering cloud native infrastructure solutions, managing automation tools, and generating reports and statistics. The ideal candidate will have experience with building pipelines for distributing Unreal Game Engine, Perforce at an administrative level, Linux / UNIX, Mac OS, and Microsoft Windows systems, scripting and programming languages, open-source technologies, cloud management services, virtualization, configuration management tools, CI/CD tools, containerization/orchestration tools, Load Balancers, Active Directory and Identity Management services, and communication of technical information.
Must have:
  • 5+ years’ experience supporting Linux / UNIX, Mac OS, and Microsoft Windows-based systems.
  • Experience with scripting and programming languages for Web App Development
  • Cloud management services (AWS, Azure, or Google GCP)
  • Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, Docker) automation.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Terraform
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, Jenkins etc.) and containerization/orchestration tools (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Load Balancers (NginX, F5).
  • Knowledge of Active Directory and Identity Management services and their application integration (IDP, SAML, Keystone, LDAP).
Good to have:
  • Experience with creative applications such as: Unreal Engine, Perforce, ToonBoom, AutoDesk Maya, Nuke
  • Knowledge of pipeline automation and render farm management / cloud rendering services (AWS Deadline)
  • Experience maintaining and distributing custom Unreal Engine builds through Unreal Game Sync (UGS) or other package management systems
  • Experience with MySQL and SQL databases.
  • Previous work experience in a similar discipline (Automation Engineer, Full Stack Engineer).
  • Experience working with network administration utilities.
  • Experience supporting high-end servers and graphics workstation hardware.

The Disney Branded Television (DBT) group oversees the creation, development, and production of live-action and animation television content for children, teenagers, and families under the Disney brand through the Disney Television Animation studio. This content is aired on the group's various cable channels, such as Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, and the Disney + Streaming platform.

DBT develops original series, movies, and other content that align with Disney's family-friendly brand image and appeal to its target audience. These television properties could include distribution deals, marketing strategies, and brand management.

Because of DBT's strong use of commercial and custom software technologies to create its products, its use of technology, engineering, development techniques, and software is essential to its production operations and workflows. We’re looking for an intellectually curious, business-savvy, analytical powerhouse to join the Disney Branded Television Technology team as a Senior Real Time Pipeline Engineer. In this role, you will develop and support solutions across DBT: Productions and Development.

Responsibilities:

Senior Real Time Pipeline Engineer is responsible for automating Production Application processes to mainly support the production Unreal Engine / Perforce pipeline used by DBT to produce its digital production products. This includes the following:

  • Work closely with product developers to ensure new features have the proper operational support and maintainability - provide deep back-of-house technical guidance to development teams.

  • Responsible for implementing complex solutions to provide hosting services and platforms to various development teams and working in partnership with the team to help drive the standardization and operational support of infrastructure solutions to support the firm’s infrastructure needs.

  • Create, build, and deliver new technologies or platforms. This will include consultation, designing, building, and supporting development pipelines, automating infrastructure and operations, creating telemetry for monitoring, engineering high reliability, and reinforcing best practices to secure our company and guest data.

  • Responsible for the architecture, deployment, and support of CI/CD pipelines.

  • Deliver cloud native and in-house infrastructure solutions for a wide range of applications.

  • Migrating applications from manual code push to automated / continuous deployments.

  • Migrating applications and servers between local and cloud platform deployments as needed.

  • Manage, configure, and implement automation tools such as Terraform, Helm, Gitlab, Kubernetes.

  • Develop software for the purposes of automating, monitoring, and maintaining deployed infrastructure and services such as:

  • Design and development front end applications as needed for automation and tools.

  • Work closely with Software Development group to manage and develop tools for managing and automating hardware and software resources.

  • Generate reports and statistics for various systems using various analytical tools.

  • Automate and support physical and virtual environments for web and application servers for both production and development.

  • Participates in researching, testing, and implementing optimized technical solutions for our production technology infrastructure and user base.

  • Provides 3rd tier, extended support to the Systems Engineering, Support Engineering and Software Development groups.

  • Performs technical administration functions and other miscellaneous technical special projects as assigned by department management.

  • Influences the direction of product and service development.

  • Interacts with vendors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent work experience

  • Experience with building pipelines for distributing Unreal Game Engine across an organization and deploying in a live-action and/or production environment.

  • Experience with Perforce at an administrative level.

  • 5+ years’ experience supporting (advanced troubleshooting and configuration experience) Linux / UNIX, Mac OS, and Microsoft Windows-based systems.

  • Experience with scripting and programming languages for Web App Development (Python, PHP, PowerShell, React, Rust, bash, etc.)

  • Ability to use a wide variety of open-source technologies.

  • Cloud management services (with AWS, Azure, or Google GCP). This includes cloud migration strategies.

  • Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, Docker) automation.

  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Terraform, and/or an equivalent product.

  • Experience with infrastructure as code workflows in Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Chef, etc.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, Jenkins etc.) and containerization/orchestration tools (Docker/Kubernetes).

  • Experience with Load Balancers (NginX, F5).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-critical environment.

  • Knowledge of Active Directory and Identity Management services and their application integration (IDP, SAML, Keystone, LDAP).

  • Able to communicate technical information effectively – both written and verbally.

  • Ability to strategically solve complex technical issues.

  • Must have a strong customer service orientation and can work with a diverse user community.

  • Must be well organized and detail oriented.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with creative applications such as: Unreal Engine, Perforce, ToonBoom, AutoDesk Maya, Nuke is a plus.

  • Knowledge of pipeline automation and render farm management / cloud rendering services (AWS Deadline) is a plus.

  • Experience maintaining and distributing custom Unreal Engine builds through Unreal Game Sync (UGS) or other package management systems is a plus.

The hiring range for this position in CA is $136,000.00 to $182,500.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
