Yahoo! Mail Team develops and maintains high-performing systems that provide API (Web Services, IMAP, & POP), Metadata and Elastic Storage for the electronic mail and its auxiliary functions. The system handles billions of requests a day, and supports a variety of clients, mobile, desktop, & web. The team works on problems that cover a wide spectrum - from web services to operating systems and networking layers. You will help build the next generation backend for Yahoo! Mail.
Essential Job Functions
* Lead a technical team of about 10 engineers to design and implement highly reliable, scalable, extensible, maintainable, global, and operable products and platforms.
* Draft and review architectural diagrams, interface specifications, class structures, and other design documents.
* Build systems that balance resources, constraints, requirements, and complexity
* Present opportunities with cost/benefit analysis to leadership in order to shape decisions regarding Yahoo!s architectural strategy
* Evangelize technologies, solutions, and best practices developed with the organization
* Develop division-wide technical perspectives, standards, solutions, and strategies that resolve significant product or organizational pain-points
* Participate in a network of architects to share ideas, practices, and experiences
* Work closely with product management and development teams to define the next generation of communications and data systems
* You must enjoy challenging engineering problems. We are looking for someone who can solve complex issues.
* We value architects who do enough hands-on implementation work to keep current with technology trends inside and outside the company
Minimum Job Qualifications:
* MS/BS or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field
* At least 5 years experience leading teams of 5+ building internet scale distributed systems
* Expert in software development domain and principles, including design patterns, code structure, programming languages, continuous integration, and deployment architecture
* Demonstrated leadership in technologies that are core to Yahoo!s products (distributed systems, cloud computing, web services, multi-tier serving architectures, mobile devices, and communications protocols)
* Great communicator, enjoys helping people, remains friendly and constructive under stress
Preferred Job Qualifications:
* Extensive experience/expertise in systems of scale in a Public Cloud (GCP, AWS,...)
* Extensive experience/expertise in SQL
