Job Description

TiMi Studio Group seeks a Level Design Intern specializing in researching ancient China (Qin and Han dynasties) for a AAA open-world game. Responsibilities include in-depth historical research on architecture, daily life, significant events, military practices, and geography; producing concise, professional documentation; providing historical consultancy to the design and art teams; analyzing the knowledge level of the target audience; collaborating with other teams to ensure historical authenticity; and staying updated on industry trends. The intern will contribute to the creation of a compelling and historically accurate game world for a global audience. This is an on-site internship at either the Singapore or Montreal location.
Must have:
  • In-depth historical research skills (Qin & Han Dynasties)
  • Excellent research & writing skills
  • Strong communication & collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in English
  • Understanding of game development process
Good to have:
  • Mandarin Chinese (reading ability)

About the Hiring Team

TiMi Montreal is a new AAA development team making an innovative open world role-playing game in Unreal Engine 5 that is part of the award-winning TiMi Studio Group and Tencent. The studio’s core team has a proven track record making hit open world games, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Watch Dogs. This is an ambitious team who aspires to be a flagship first-party studio for TiMi, reaching global audiences of passionate gamers who appreciate the studio’s optimistic and inclusive culture that rewards disruptive, risk-taking game development.

What the Role Entails

Award-winning TiMi Studio Group seeks a Level design intern with focus on researching ancient China history and settings to develop a AAA, open-world game based on a new IP. The project will be released on multiple platforms, with an objective to reach a global audience.

Job description
 

  • Conduct in-depth historical research on Chinese Qin and Han dynasties, focusing on: Architecture and urban planning
    Daily life, social structure, and customs
    Significant historical events and key figures
    Military practices, weapons, and strategies
    Geography, landscapes, and environmental details

  • Produce well-structured, professional documentation that is concise, accessible, and easy to reference for the design and art teams.

  • Provide historical consultancy by answering team inquiries regarding historical accuracy and portrayal.

  • Analyze the historical knowledge level of the general Chinese audience to help gauge realism vs. creative liberties in storytelling.

  • Collaborate with writers, designers, and artists to ensure cultural and historical authenticity in the game's narrative and world-building.

  • Stay up to date with recent AAA game releases and industry trends, offering insights on how historical themes are incorporated into modern gaming.

Who We Look For

Job requirements

  • Currently in school graduating with a future date, or graduation year no earlier than 2024

  • Educational background in History, Archaeology, Sinology, Game Design, or a related field 

  • Research & Writing Skills: proven ability to conduct comprehensive historical research and synthesize findings into clear, professional documentation.

  • Strong attention to detail in verifying historical accuracy.

  • Communication & Collaboration: excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to effectively explain complex historical concepts to non-historians.

  • Game Industry Knowledge: enthusiastic about video games, especially AAA titles that incorporate historical or narrative-driven elements.

  • Understanding of game development processes and narrative design principles is a plus.

  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese (reading ability for historical texts is a plus).
