Job Description

As an Area Program Manager, EHS Construction at Google, you'll lead and develop the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program for data center construction. Responsibilities include ensuring contractor safety performance, advising project teams on EHS compliance, driving a continuous learning culture, and liaising with the Construction EHS team. You will monitor, advise and assist the construction project teams to protect people, environment, and ensure compliance. You'll work to create a safe work environment for all workers, from site work to home life. The role requires strong program management skills, experience in data center construction, and a deep understanding of EHS regulations.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years program/project management experience
  • Data center construction program management experience
  • Construction safety management experience
  • Lead EHS program development and oversight
  • Ensure contractor safety performance
Good to have:
  • Certified Safety Professional or other EHS certifications
  • 10+ years EHS construction & subcontractor management
  • 5+ years managing cross-functional projects
  • Operational data center experience
  • Understanding of construction program management and agreements

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program or project management.
  • Experience with data center construction program management.
  • Experience with construction safety management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certified Safety Professional or other Environmental, Health and Safety Construction (EHS) certifications.
  • 10 years of experience with Environmental Health and Safety construction and subcontractor management.
  • 5 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience working in operational data centers with a focus on safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Understanding of construction program management including basic construction agreements.

In this role, you will make safety a priority and bring value to the entire life-cycle of data center builds in order to create an environment for all workers to return home safely. You will foster a EHS culture by establishing clear expectations, open communication, the engagement of all workers, safe work behaviors, and continual improvement. You will build and resource a program that touches every worker that comes on our sites and continues to live on with them at home and throughout their careers.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and ownership of the Environmental, Health and Safety Construction (EHS) program for area construction oversight and data collection.
  • Ensure that contractors deliver on program safety performance expectations and agreement requirements providing solutions to the issues.
  • Monitor, advise and assist the construction project teams to protect people, environment, and ensure compliance.
  • Drive culture that embraces a continuous learning approach and aligns with organizational strategies including goals and objectives.
  • Liaise with the Construction EHS team to ensure best practices are completely implemented, progress reported, trends and data captured, analyzed and risks mitigated to an acceptable level ensuring that the operational capacity of a live data center is not compromised.
