The Director, DTC Content Planning & Analysis (CP&A) at Disney Entertainment leads content valuation and performance for Hulu and Disney+. Responsibilities include defining and improving content investment methodologies and KPIs, translating data into financial decisions, building partnerships with stakeholders, developing performance tracking and reporting, optimizing content investment strategy, designing efficient workflows, and overseeing cross-functional projects. The role requires leading and developing a high-performing team, communicating effectively with senior leadership, and shaping the content pipeline. This position requires deep analytical skills, financial acumen, and a passion for content.

Job Summary:

Disney Entertainment (DE) is one of the three major business segments of The Walt Disney Company, consisting of Disney's entertainment media and content businesses, including its motion picture film studios, Disney General Entertainment Content, streaming services, and overseas media businesses.

The Director, DTC Content Planning & Analysis (CP&A) position will lead and manage content valuation and performance for Hulu and Disney+ for the Disney Entertainment Television (DET) CP&A team, specifically across the General Entertainment brands of FX, ABC, Hulu Originals, ABC News, Onyx, and Freeform. The role will be responsible for valuing content deals, tracking, evaluating, and contextualizing performance of content launches, working cross-functionally to determine the appropriate levels of content investment, and delivering value-added analytically driven insights to inform future content decisions. This individual will also develop strong relationships and partner closely with stakeholders across DE content teams, to deliver content performance readouts to senior leadership, inform greenlight and renewal decisions and help shape the content pipeline.

What You Will Do:

  • Define and continually improve methodologies and KPIs for evaluating content investments.
  • Work cross-functionally to translate large amounts of data into financial decisions and strategic insights to inform development and renewal decisions.
  • Develop strong partnerships with stakeholders across DE and create breakeven and comps-based performance projections to inform their greenlight and renewal decisions.
  • Develop and operationalize content performance tracking and reporting; lead discussions of content performance with DTC and studio leadership, as well as senior creative executives.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize and maximize our content programming investment strategy based on ROI and effectively communicate this strategy to senior leadership.
  • Design and evolve workflows to efficiently scale alongside growing volume of content launches.
  • Oversee large and cross-functional department wide projects or initiatives determined by the heads of the department.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of managers and analysts.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • At least 10 years of experience in Finance or Strategy, with a minimum of 5 years of experience leading teams.
  • Rigorous analytical background and mindset with a demonstrated track record of implementing successful business strategies.
  • Experience in leveraging data and insights (digital consumption habits and media consumption patterns) to inform strategy and decision-making.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of finance and financial modeling.
  • Strong passion for content (a love for movies and TV).
  • Strategic, creative, and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Superior organizational, prioritization, and time management skills; ability to execute against multiple, high-priority projects, with a keen attention to detail
  • Must be open to thinking outside of traditional models.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communications skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior management, staff, and external research professionals.
  • Advanced data literacy.
  • Passion and insight into The Walt Disney Company segments, brands and franchises, the elements that define them, and expertise to build further audience engagement.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and collaborative spirit.
  • Can manage multiple projects in varying stages of development.
  • Experienced leader with a track record of high-performing teams.
  • Highly organized with excellent follow through.
  • Proven ability to work across a matrixed organization while also able to self-motivate.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive working in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CP&A Experience
  • Experience in a media/entertainment, technology, or start-up environment.
  • Digital Media and Entertainment, particularly SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) experience, preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting or related field
  • MBA/advanced degree preferred

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $221,100 to $270,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
