Job Description

The Commerce, Growth, & Identity (CGI) team at Disney seeks a Lead Software Engineer to build solutions mitigating payment fraud risk. Responsibilities include designing and implementing microservices (Java/Scala), asynchronous processes in the cloud, tech design for various initiatives, code and architecture reviews, Agile participation, on-call support, and end-to-end project delivery. The role involves collaboration with Product, Information Security, Data, Analytics, Business Operations, and Finance teams. Candidates should possess expertise in building scalable, robust, and large-scale systems.
Must have:
  • 7+ years experience in technical field
  • Bachelor's in CS or related
  • Experience building large-scale systems
  • Java/Scala microservices
  • AWS experience (EC2, S3, Lambda, etc.)
  • Relational/NoSQL database experience
  • Agile methodology experience
Good to have:
  • Kotlin, Javascript, React experience
  • Python or Javascript scripting
  • GCP/Azure cloud experience

The Commerce, Growth, & Identity (CGI) team is dedicated to three business-critical areas at Disney that will help transform its media business. They create seamless user experiences for consumers who can choose from a wide range of subscription plans, enabling more choice and flexibility. The CGI team is also focused on building innovative and cutting-edge capabilities that will drive subscriptions, engagement, and monetization across Disney’s streaming and digital products.

Disney is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join the Commerce, Growth, & Identity Fraud team. You will be working on mitigating risk by building solutions to identify, prevent and catch payment fraud and contribute to the expansion of our risk platform. You will also build services powered by our machine learning team, various third-party services, and other global data sets. This role is highly multi-functional and gives the opportunity to work with Product, Information Security, Data, Analytics, Business Operations, Finance, and various other functions across the company as we seek out fraud throughout our systems. You take pride in being responsible for your features, focusing on quality, reliability, and scale, and are mindful of maintainability.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement tier-1 microservices in Java and/or Scala.

  • Implement asynchronous processes to run in the cloud for various data transformation operations.

  • Work on tech design for various initiatives and projects as per business needs.

  • Be involved in code reviews and architecture reviews for team members.

  • Participate in Agile methodology and SCRUM processes such as Sprint Planning, Backlog grooming, Daily Standups, and Retrospectives with the team.

  • Provide on-call support for critical services on a rotational basis.

  • Own features/functionality and deliver projects end-to-end with high quality and robust architecture.

  • Communicate and work with multi-functional business partners.

  • Ramp up on new domains and technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in a technical field

  • Bachelor’s in CS (or related field) required

  • Considered a domain specialist, higher or unique level of expertise

  • Experience building scalable, robust, resilient and large scale systems

  • Exposure in collaborating with multiple teams in delivering high impact features

  • Experience working on relational and/or NoSQL databases

  • Write code in Kotlin, Java, Javascript, React

  • Use AWS products and services (EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, RDS, ElastiCache, Opensearch, CloudFormation, etc.)

  • Develop RESTful services

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scripting experience with Python or Javascript

  • Cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure)


The hiring range for this position in Seattle or New York is $159,500 - $213,900 per year, in Los Angeles is $152,200 - $204,100 per year and in San Francisco is $166,800 - $223,600 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
