The Manager, Research at Lionsgate's Motion Picture Group plays a vital role in data-driven decision-making for film production, marketing, and distribution. Responsibilities include managing research planning and delivery (needs assessments, vendor selection, study design, execution of ad testing and brand studies), overseeing diverse research methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods), partnering with key stakeholders to address strategic questions, and creating actionable recommendations from data analysis. The role involves managing budgets, staying updated on industry trends, and contributing to test screening logistics. Success requires strong communication, project management, and analytical skills, along with experience in media/entertainment research.

Summary of Position

The Manager, Research reports into the Executive Director, Global Research and will play a critical role in how Motion Picture Group executives interpret and use data to make decisions in how LIONSGATE’s movies are made, marketed and distributed. This role will work alongside the Motion Picture Group Marketing team and a number of critical thinkers, strategists, researchers, analysts, innovators and engineers across the company who are solving some of the studio’s biggest challenges. It is an opportunity to deliver tangible value inside the industry’s largest independent motion picture studio. Your work will be viewed by business executives; directors, actors and producers; and creatives in marketing, movie development and production. Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing all research planning and delivery, from needs assessments, project briefs, vendor and methodology selections, study and questionnaire design, and execution inclusive of creative ad testing and brand and/or landscape studies
  • Oversee a variety of research techniques, spanning quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods to define, measure and describe potential motion picture audiences for each film 
  • Partner with key individuals across the Motion Picture Group to identify key strategic and tactical questions and address with shareable reports and/or presentations
  • Manage on-going and ad hoc reports using quantitative and qualitative data for various groups including Marketing, Production and Development leadership 
  • Interpret research findings, translate into insights, merge with any relevant analytical data and turn into a set of clear, actionable recommendations 
  • Draft compelling and visually engaging reports and presentations that are easy for non-technical audiences to comprehend 
  • Aid with test screening planning and logistics (e.g. data goals, attendees, and distribution of results)
  • Manage budget for the Research team
  • Stay abreast of new methods, trends and best practices in research (particularly in the entertainment industry)

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3-5 years of experience in research (preferably for a media, entertainment or a research agency supporting the same) 
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a concentration in consumer behavior, marketing research, behavioral marketing, consumer insights, or consumer psychology a plus 
  • Experience working with both qualitative and quantitative research methods, along with a strong drive to learn, understand and uncover reasons for consumer behavior
  • Stellar business communication skills required, with an ability to actively listen and ask questions to unpack meaning from and further understanding of business users, articulate complex concepts in a clear way, offer constructive feedback and distill meaning  
  • Exceptional project management skills, organizational abilities, problem solving proficiencies and attention to detail
  • Experience or knowledge of film industry specific deliverables (e.g. NRG tracking) 
  • Proficiency with survey and or panel platforms a plus (e.g., Qualtrics, Toluna, YouGov)
  • Familiarity with statistical software (e.g. SPSS) or programming languages (e.g. R, Python) is a plus  
  • Proficiency in Excel, Tableau, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Keynote, or similar programs
  • An interest in movies or entertainment, with an emphasis on familiarity of Lionsgate intellectual properties

Supplemental Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with concentration in consumer behavior, marketing research, behavioral marketing, consumer insights or consumer psychology.
