Job Description

Synopsys is seeking an R&D Verification Engineer II to join the Electronics, Semiconductor and Optics Business Unit (ESOBU). This role involves software testing of ANSYS applications like HFSS 3D Layout, assessing functionality and usability against customer needs and quality standards. The engineer will collaborate with the product creation team and technical specialists, specifying and writing test cases, performing manual and automated testing, investigating issues, and contributing to defect management and testing metrics. The position requires adherence to company development and testing processes and working across various computing environments including Windows, Linux, Virtual Machines, Compute Clusters, and Cloud. The engineer will reproduce product defects and collaborate with developers for resolutions, approving product releases when specifications and quality standards are met.
Must have:
  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 2 years of experience
  • Technical knowledge of high frequency principles
  • Experience with Signal and Power Integrity
  • Experience with PCBs and IC Packages
  • Experience with EMI/EMC
  • Strong knowledge of Python
  • Specify and write test cases
  • Perform functional, application, regression, and performance testing
  • Create test plans
Good to have:
  • MS with no experience
  • Familiarity with Ansys HFSS and HFSS 3D Layout
  • Experience in large-scale commercial software testing
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Collaborate with a distributed team
  • Familiarity with EDA/CAE software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Linux

Summary / Role Purpose

The R&D Verification Engineer II joins the Electronics, Semiconductor and Optics Business Unit (ESOBU) to conduct software testing of ANSYS applications such as HFSS 3D Layout.  This role assesses how well the product meets customer needs both in terms of functionality and usability and ensures that product requirements and quality standards are satisfied. The role works closely with other members of the product creation team and communicates with technical specialists on product issues. 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Specify and write test cases, creates, modify and update existing tests, write and maintain test scripts  
  • Perform functional, application, regression and performance testing in manual and/or automated test environments and investigate possible causes of problems
  • Create test plans, participate in defect management and testing metrics
  • Apply standard techniques and procedures and comply with the company's overall development and testing processes​
  • Work in a variety of computing environments:  Windows, Linux, Virtual Machines, Compute Clusters, Cloud, etc.
  • Understand and reproduce product defects, and work with developers to determine the best resolution.
  • Approve product releases from development when feature specifications and quality standards are reached. 

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 2 years of experience, or MS with no experience
  • Technical knowledge and experience with high frequency principles and applications:
    • Signal and Power Integrity
    • PCBs and IC Packages
    • EMI/EMC
  • Strong knowledge of programming and scripting languages:
    • Python

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Familiarity with analysis tools, such as Ansys HFSS and HFSS 3D Layout is a plus.
  • Experience in a large-scale commercial software testing and verification environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
  • Familiarity with EDA/CAE software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Linux platforms
