Senior Backend Engineer, Games Development

We are looking for a highly experienced and talented Senior Backend Engineer who is passionate about delivering the highest quality of service to our players and mentoring and leading a team of Backend Engineers. You’ll help guide the team’s technical direction, support their growth, and ensure we continue to build robust and scalable backend services.

You will join a cross-functional and dynamic team of developers and collaborate closely with product, design, and frontend teams to create services that enhance the online experience for our players.

Your responsibilities will include:
 

• Leading the roadmap for and working on our proprietary game backend using Java
• Executing and implementing features for the product as well as to empower the team
• Improving system stability by following and encouraging best practices like test-driven development
• Leading and collaborating on system design and technical strategy
• Managing a team of backend engineers, ensuring delivery of high-quality, maintainable code
• Providing regular feedback, coaching, and mentorship to help your team grow professionally
• Conducting and participating in peer code reviews, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to scope, plan, and execute features
• Supporting hiring efforts and helping to grow the backend team
• Maintaining and sharing knowledge within the Engineering team about industry trends, tools, and technologies—especially related to backend systems

As a successful candidate, you would have:
 

• Shipped multiple features and projects in a live environment
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related is strongly preferred
• 7+ years of development experience, with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership or management role
• The ability to lead and support a team through complex technical challenges
• Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to guide technical conversations and decisions
• A high sense of quality and polish, and pride in the work you deliver
• Experience leading backend development efforts in live production environments
• The ability to accurately time estimate and plan technical work, and support the team in doing the same

Experience or understanding of the following technologies is helpful to the position; 

• Java 11/17, Spring Boot 2/3
• Unix / Linux shell environments
• Microservices – Tracing / Service Discovery / Inter-Service Messaging / Monitoring
• Performant and scalable data – NoSQL / In-memory datastores
• Containers – Docker / Kubernetes
• Integration and stress testing, especially in live game environments
• CI/CD – Gradle / Ansible / GitHub Actions
• Monitoring – Prometheus / Grafana / ELK
• Cloud infrastructure – AWS and/or Google Cloud
• Developing high volume and performance-critical services
• Experience with game engines – Unity / C#
• Exposure to blockchain technologies and services
