Job Description

Rebellion seeks a Senior Level Designer to contribute to exciting game projects. Responsibilities include creating immersive levels, collaborating with artists and narrative designers, identifying and addressing production issues, conducting playtesting, integrating contributions from various disciplines (AI, sound, gameplay), and developing design guides and specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in level design for multiplayer games, experience mentoring teams, and a deep understanding of game development lifecycles. The role offers flexibility with hybrid work options and relocation assistance.
Must have:

For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.

We are currently seeking a Senior Level Designer to join our talented team and contribute to our exciting game projects!

As a Senior Level Designer, you will play a crucial role in shaping gameplay experiences, delivering high-quality design documents, and prototyping specifications. Your expertise will guide the level design team, ensuring a standard of excellence while driving core feature development.

This exciting opportunity can be based out of any of our studios in Oxford, Warwick, or Runcorn, offering flexibility, collaboration, and the chance to work with a world-class team! Responsibilities:

  • Create engaging and immersive levels that enhance gameplay and align with the overall creative vision.
  • Collaborate with artists and narrative designers to iterate on and refine level designs.
  • Spot potential issues early in production and communicate effectively with the Lead Level Designer.
  • Playtest levels regularly and provide constructive feedback to fellow team members.
  • Integrate contributions from different disciplines (AI, sound, gameplay elements) into the game engine.
  • Develop guides and tutorials to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Write specifications for new features or improvements actively.
  • Provide insights on design processes and workflows to enhance production efficiency.

Requirements

  • Proven experience creating game design documents and prototypes.
  • Strong background in level design for multiplayer games.
  • Professional experience in a Senior Level Designer role on at least one published title from concept to completion.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the video game development lifecycle and production timelines.
  • Expertise in production pipelines and workflows.
  • Ability to advocate for player-centric design principles.
  • Experience mentoring and guiding teams to improve performance and problem-solving.
  • Insight into industry trends and their impact on project effectiveness.
