Job Summary

Job Description

As a Critical Environment Electrical Engineer at Microsoft, you'll be the technical authority for on-site operations of large-scale mission-critical electrical systems. Responsibilities include managing electrical infrastructure across datacenter campuses, working with commissioning teams, establishing maintenance and safety procedures, and supporting 24/7 operations. You'll ensure highly redundant electrical designs and a culture of safety and compliance. Experience with datacenter operations, UPS, STS, ATS, generators, and AHUs is essential, along with expertise in Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS). Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills are vital for success in this role.
Must have:
  • Master's or Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in datacenter electrical systems
  • Knowledge of UPS, STS, ATS, generators, AHUs
  • EPMS knowledge
  • Leadership and communication skills
Good to have:

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

 

  • ⁠Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience 
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience 
      • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements: 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. 
  • Criminal Justice Information Services: This position requires passing a background check conducted through the CJIS criminal justice information system by authorized local, state, and/or federal agencies and across multiple states. This role requires candidates to maintain CJIS screening eligibility.  

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND 3+ year(s) of technical engineering experience
  • Experience in Datacenter Operations or other Critical Environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, STS, ATS, Generator, AHU)

Electrical Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical authority for on-site operations related to a large-scale mission critical electrical system, design, and functionality.
  • Manage the electrical infrastructures throughout datacenter campus ranging from a single large capacity facility, to several smaller ones.
  • Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems. 
  • Understand the design and functionality of your datacenter.
  • Establish and coordinate maintenance and safety procedures, maintaining highly redundant electrical designs.  
  • Support 24x7x365 on-site datacenters operations and electrical infrastructure.
  • Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspect of data center activities.  
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).
  • Must possess leadership competencies and a willingness to collaborate and work cross- functionally to maximize business results and positive customer experiences. 
  • Exhibit interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills to be used at varying levels of business up to and including business executives.  
  • Able to work with other technical and non-technical groups.
  • Be methodical, and detailed-oriented.
