The Environment Prop Lead at Infinity Ward oversees the creation and standards of environment models for Call of Duty projects. Responsibilities include maintaining quality across all environment props, mentoring artists on established workflows, prioritizing and assigning tasks, researching and incorporating new techniques, collaborating with other teams (Tools, Engine, Tech Art), creating process documentation, and providing feedback. The ideal candidate has 4+ years of experience creating realistic props for FPS games, experience with photogrammetry, and advanced skills in software like Substance Designer, Substance Painter, ZBrush, and Maya. The role requires leadership skills, the ability to provide clear direction, and a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Environment Prop Lead

Your Mission

As part of the leadership team at Infinity Ward, the Environment Prop Lead oversees the creation and standards of the project’s environment models. You’ll join a team of leaders focusing on empowering our global team of artists and help make our maps and environments come alive through realism and storytelling.

We’re seeking an experienced artist who knows the ins and outs of creating believable and interesting models, within the technical and artistic constraints of consoles and mobile. You should be able to educate artists and describe why or how an asset can look better or be more performant. As a mentor you’re proactively finding solutions to improve pipelines and workflows and deliver clear and constructive feedback to both internal and external artists with confidence. Collaborating comes natural to you, guiding others to be successful in their task.

Being an ambassador for environmental prop art, you’ll represent the Infinity Ward Studio within the franchise working with level artists, photogrammetry experts, leads and Directors within our and other Call of Duty studios.


Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining quality across all environment props made for the project.

  • Maintain and mentor artists on established franchise workflows and best practices.

  • Prioritize and assign tasks and initiatives to the team to ensure the best possible results, while aligning with Directors, Production and OS managers.

  • Research and incorporate latest techniques and industry standards.

  • Work closely with Tools, Engine, and Tech art counterparts to develop new workflows or improve upon existing tools and technologies to streamline team efficiency. 

  • Create documentation of processes for others to follow as needed. 

  • Provide feedback to both internal and external artists regarding quality and technical execution. 

Player Profile

Experience

  • 4+ years of industry experience creating realistic props for 1st person (FPS) games as a Sr. Artist or in an Art Leadership position.

  • Ability to lead by example, creating or guiding artists to create benchmark quality assets.

  • Experience working with photogrammetry to add realistic details to props.

  • Advanced skill in software: Substance Designer, Substance Painter, Adobe Photoshop and ZBrush, Blender or similar software.

  • Strong knowledge of a 3D modeling software (Maya, Max, etc.)

  • Unmatched understanding of Physically Based Rendering (PBR) practices.

  • Able to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
