The Principal Group Program Manager at Microsoft's Azure Customer Experience Platform (CXP) team will lead cross-functional projects, analyze customer needs, and drive improvements in cloud quality, security, and reliability. This role requires deep engagement in incident management, support, and enablement, translating customer feedback into actionable insights for the Azure team. Responsibilities include contributing to product architecture, sharing knowledge, and improving system development and operations across the business. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise in distributed systems and a proven ability to manage complex projects and teams.
Must have:
  • 6+ years experience in engineering/program management
  • 4+ years people management experience
  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional projects
  • Understanding of distributed systems design
  • Ability to improve system/product development and operations
Good to have:
  • Experience reading/writing code
  • 10+ years experience with OOP languages (C#, Java, Python)

We are looking to hire a Principal Group Program Manager to join our team. We are customer-obsessed problem-solvers. Azure Reliability team is a multidisciplinary engineering organization part of CXP dedicated to making, “Azure the safest and most reliable Cloud”. 

 

Azure Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams strive to improve reliability fundamentals via software engineering operational improvement, preferring long-lasting platform improvements delivered as engineering projects over repetitive manual operations. We contribute to the product fundamentals and architecture, share knowledge, and code, and prefer reuse over re-invention, always looking for ways to make what we build useful to multiple teams and products.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements:

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
  • 10+ years of experience with object-oriented programming languages, such as C#, Java, Python, or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with large and complex codebases, including those exceeding millions of lines of code.
  • Understanding of modern distributed software design patterns and cloud systems architecture, including microservices, containers, load-balancing, queuing, and caching.

Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding of the distributed systems design, interactions between cloud technology layers and components, basic dependencies at scale, and the code that defines infrastructures. 
  • Managers deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring 
  • Shares and defines insights, best practices, and standards that can be applied to improve system, platform, and/or product development and operations across the business. 
  • Expands end-to-end technical expertise in the architecture, code, features, operations and comprehensive use scenarios of products in order to drive continuous improvements  
  • Contribute to the product fundamentals and architecture, share knowledge, and code, always looking for ways to make what we build useful to multiple teams and products.   
  • Demonstrates end-to-end expertise in distributed systems design, interactions between cloud technology layers  
  • Support ongoing engagements with product engineering teams by participating in test maturity reviews, static analysis reviews, meetings, on-call rotations, and incident responses throughout product development and operations cycles. 
  • Provides deep business and technical expertise as required to resolve major incidents
