The Senior Environment Artist will report to the Lead Environment Artist and Art Director, focusing on creating stunning, beautiful, and immersive environments. This role involves responsibility for playable environments from conception to final polish, utilizing skills in modeling, texturing, lighting, optimization, and level design to drive the game's visual direction forward.
Must have:
  • Work closely with the Lead Environment Artist and Art Director
  • Create efficient, production-ready stylized 3D environments from block out to polished states using 3D and 2D assets
  • Model and texture assets from concept art and descriptions
  • Perform UV unwrapping and texture mapping
  • Import models into Unreal, set them up correctly, and create applicable materials
  • Maintain a consistent and high-quality art style with the art team
  • Adjust environments based on gameplay needs with game designers

Your focus will be to create stunning, beautiful, and immersive environments. You will be responsible for playable environments from conception to final polish, while utilizing your skills that include modelling, texturing, lighting, optimization, and level design.

You’ll be working on Threads of Time, a 2.5D JRPG inspired by Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy where you get to travel from the pre-historic era to the end of time!

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Lead Environment Artist and Art Director
  • Work with both 3D and 2D assets to create efficient, production-ready stylized 3D environments from block out to polished states
  • Modeling and texturing assets from concept art and descriptions
  • UV unwrapping, texture mapping
  • Importing models into Unreal, setting them up correctly, and creating applicable materials
  • Working closely with the rest of the art team to maintain a consistent and high-quality art style
  • Working closely with game designers to create and adjust environments based on gameplay needs

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in 3D modeling and texturing
  • A shipped game title
  • A love of JRPGs
  • Highly proficient in industry-standard tools like Maya, Blender, Photoshop
  • Expert knowledge of game environment development processes such as low poly modeling, diffuse texturing, modular construction and organization, lighting/post-process techniques, etc
  • Good sense of asset organization and adherence to naming conventions
  • Foundational art knowledge of colour theory, composition, shape language, and 2D painting/drawing skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to drive towards clarity to deliver work on time
  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback

Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 CAD

Please note that although this is a full-time remote position, applicants must reside in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, or British Columbia, or be willing to relocate.
