Western Digital is seeking a highly skilled Senior Metrology Engineer in Bayan Lepas, Malaysia. This role involves leading metrology initiatives, ensuring precision measurements, and maintaining quality standards in HDD Media R&D and manufacturing. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing advanced metrology tools, setting up new metrology recipes, and transferring them from WD R&D in the US to Penang. The engineer will design measurement studies, calibrate and troubleshoot equipment, analyze data using statistical methods, and optimize measurement conditions. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, project leadership, and staying updated on industry standards are also expected. The role involves contributing to metrology procedures, best practices, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 3-5 years of experience in metrology engineering
  • Knowledge of metrology principles and techniques
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good to have:
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience in semiconductor/electronics manufacturing

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Metrology Engineer to join our team in Bayan Lepas, Malaysia. In this critical role, you will be responsible for leading metrology initiatives, ensuring precision measurements, and maintaining quality standards in our HDD Media R&D & manufacturing processes.

  • Develop and implement advanced metrology tools for R&D & manufacturing processes and quality control
  • New Metrology recipes set-up & transfer from WD R&D facility in US to Penang
  • Design and conduct measurement studies to analyze and improve product quality
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot sophisticated metrology equipment
  • Analyze measurement data using statistical methods to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Set up / optimize the measurement condition to reduce the measurement variation or measurement time reduction
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues and optimize processes
  • Lead metrology-related projects and mentor junior engineers
  • Stay current with industry standards, regulations, and emerging technologies in metrology
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations for management
  • Contribute to the development of metrology procedures and best practices
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance measurement accuracy and efficiency

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field); Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in metrology engineering, preferably in the semiconductor or electronics manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge of metrology principles, techniques, and industry standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM)

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with diverse teams
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and precision

Skills
