Job Description

The Staff Sensor System Engineer will be responsible for creating and deploying advanced sensor design solutions for next-generation sensors used in mobile, robot, and automotive applications. This role involves working with multiple engineering teams, applying modeling and analysis results to product development. Key responsibilities include owning current and next-generation sensor architecture, developing advanced dToF sensor technologies through modeling and simulation, defining KPI targets, developing product features, leading go-to-market strategies, and analyzing product usage data. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of dToF systems and experience with optical system modeling and simulation tools.
Must have:
  • In-depth knowledge of dToF systems based on SPAD sensors
  • Experience in optical system modeling (ZEMAX, CODE V, etc.)
  • Proficiency in analytical tools (MATLAB, Python, C++)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with TCAD tools
  • Knowledge of Diffractive Optical Elements and lasers
  • Proficiency in Korean

What You’ll Do

Products & Solutions Planning (PSP) office is part of Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. (SSI), the industry's technology and volume leader in semiconductor products. PSP’s mission is to create product and technology plans to exceed customer and market expectations and to build and realize productization strategies to provide best-in-class silicon products and solutions to our customers.

We are looking for Staff Sensor System Engineer for Mobile, Robot, Automotive Application to join our team in San Jose, CA. A successful candidate will be responsible for creating and deploying advanced sensor design solution for next generation sensors and working with multiple engineering teams to apply the results of your modeling and analysis to product development

Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose Headquarters 3-4 days per week with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time with an average of 10-20% travel per month.

Reports to: Director, Product Planning

  • Own the current and next generation sensor architecture
  • Knowledge of depth modules (iToF, SPAD based dToF, LiDAR), Diffractive Optical Elements, lasers, receivers
  • Understanding the fundamentals of sensor (Pixel) design based on CMOS and manufacturing flow, SPADrelated technologies including PLL/TDC/HISTOGRAM, and depth sensor operation
  • Develop advanced dToF sensor technologies through detailed process and device modeling and simulation using advanced TCAD tool
  • Experience in optical system modeling and simulation using tools such as ZEMAX, CODE V, LightTools, etc.
  • Advanced proficiency in an analytical tools/language (MATLAB, Python, C++)
  • Define key performance indicator (KPI) target for the products to be competitive in the market
  • Develop and implement product features that enhance customer value and satisfaction
  • Experience in specification negotiation with customers/partners desired
  • Lead development and execution of go-to-market strategy for new products and features
  • Analyze product usage data and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement
  • Track and report on KPIs throughout development and production
  • Complete other activities as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related discipline with 10+ years of experience in optical sensor system modeling, application product engineering, or Master’s degree with 8+ years experience, or PhD with 5+ years experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of dToF system based on SPAD sensor is preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and interpretation
  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as with cross-functional teams, including coordinating across organizational boundaries and geographies

Base Pay Range

$153,075 - $236,925 USD
