Description
SAIC has an opening for Senior to Principal 3D Artist within our Engineering Innovation Factory (EIF). This position will be remote, and work will be conducted with the Immersive Technology team to develop content that includes but not limited to 3D models, environments, props/assets, animations, videos, and the development of game engine content. This position will support the visualization efforts of the XR - Immersive Technology team to provide solutions for the Digital Engineering Ecosystem and other relevant projects.
Job Duties
- Conversion of CAD (Computer Aided Design) models into usable models formats (i.e. FBX, OBJ, etc.)
- Populate and maintain a database composed of model assets
- Estimate level of effort and schedule for generating custom artwork
- Effective communication of artwork and work approaches with fellow developers and leadership
- Be able to collaborate with multiple artists as needed to complete a project
- Create both high and low poly models, conversion of high poly to low poly
- Generate performant models for use in game engines to support use in 3D desktop applications, augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality
- Support in developing a pipeline for content creation to support the use of immersive technology, integrate automation as opportunity arises
- Occasionally create video content
- Work closely with the XR - Immersive Technology team and provide feedback
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors and 5+ years of experience, or a Masters and 3+ years of experience, additional work experience and a portfolio of work can be considered in lieu of a degree
- 5+ years of professional experience as a 3D Artist or relevant experience
- Experience with creating 3D environmental scenery and props/assets
- Experience with model and character animation
- Have worked with game engines (i.e. Unity, Unreal Engine, etc.)
- Familiarity with developing model content for game engines (i.e. Unity, Unreal Engine, etc.)
- Knowledge in creating high quality models
- Ability to be innovative and determine high quality and detailed approaches to generate high quality content
- Ability to construct and improvise on model creation or existing models from limited resources
- Strong understanding of other art forms or styles such as polygon modeling, sculpting, rigging, deformations, and other simplification techniques
- Understanding of textures and material properties, how they may translate into game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine etc.), and the creation of LOD’s to optimize performance in game engines when using immersive technology (i.e. augmented, virtual, and mixed realities)
- Creative and resourceful in problem-solving
- Ability to adapt to different art styles as needed for the completion of projects
- Experience with converting hi poly models into performant low poly models for efficient use in virtual, augmented, or mixed reality
- Proficient with using 3D and 2D applications and authoring tools such as Maya (or equivalent), ZBrush, Substance Painter, After Effects, and Photoshop (Other equivalent modeling applications and tools relative to the listed applications are also relevant)
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to adapt and pivot with projects as it relates to content creation
- Must be a US Citizen
