Ethernovia is seeking a highly experienced Technical Writer with expertise in DITA XML for a 3 to 6-month contract role. The primary responsibility is converting existing technical documentation, predominantly from Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign, into DITA XML format. This role is crucial for transitioning to a structured authoring environment, ensuring content accuracy, consistency, and reusability. The ideal candidate will analyze content, develop conversion strategies, collaborate with subject matter experts, and utilize DITA authoring tools. Experience in the semiconductor industry is a significant advantage.
Must have:
  • 8+ years of technical writing experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Technical Writer (Contract)

Summary:

A highly experienced and skilled Technical Writer with expertise in DITA XML and content conversion is needed to join the documentation team. This role involves converting existing documentation, mainly from Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign formats, into DITA XML. The Technical Writer will play a key role in the transition to a structured authoring environment, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and reusability of technical content. Previous experience within the semiconductor industry is a significant advantage.
  • Initial contract period: 3 to 6 months
Responsibilities:
  • Convert legacy technical documentation, primarily from Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign, into DITA XML format.
  • Analyze existing content to determine the most effective DITA structure and content model for conversion.
  • Develop and maintain conversion strategies and processes, including style-to-tag mapping and automation workflows.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure the technical accuracy of converted content.
  • Implement and enforce DITA best practices and company style guides to maintain content quality and consistency.
  • Utilize DITA authoring tools and Content Management Systems (CCMS) for effective content creation and management.
  • Troubleshoot conversion issues and implement solutions to optimize the process.
  • Provide guidance and support to other writers on DITA best practices and conversion processes.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation tools and processes.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of technical writing experience, with a strong portfolio of technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in DITA XML authoring and publication workflows.
  • Proven experience converting technical documents from Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign to DITA.
  • Solid understanding of content conversion methodologies, including style-to-tag mapping and metadata management.
  • Familiarity with DITA authoring tools such as Oxygen XML Editor, Adobe FrameMaker, or similar.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) or Component Content Management Systems (CCMS).
  • Experience with automated conversion tools and scripting.

Contract Hourly Range:

  • The actual offered hourly contract pay will vary depending on factors such as individual qualifications, specializations, years of experience, skills, and job-related knowledge. The contract pay range for this position is $50-$70/hour. 
  • Initial contract period: 3 to 6 months
