Job Description

As Creative Director at Atomic Arcade, you'll lead art, animation, and design teams, shaping the creative vision for their first AAA game. Responsibilities include collaborating with studio leadership and co-development partners, developing design materials, ensuring alignment between creative teams, partnering with production and tech leadership, mentoring internal and external teams, understanding cross-platform development, providing game feedback, and identifying/solving content creation problems. You'll guide the game's creative direction, working with internal and external partners to deliver a high-quality, engaging experience. The role demands strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with a deep understanding of game design and storytelling.
Must have:

Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold and contemporary new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. We are looking for an experienced, passionate, and dedicated Creative Director to join us to lead our art, animation, and design teams to ensure the game vision comes to life at the highest level of quality. Reporting to the Studio GM you will play a meaningful leadership role on the team as we continue development in pre-production. You'll help guide the creative direction of our 1st game, both with our internal team as well as with external partners.

 

We are currently looking for someone who can work hybrid OR full-time in North Carolina. 

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with studio leadership and co-development partners to continue to develop the overall project creative vision and execute effectively on bringing that vision to life in the game.
  • Develop compelling design materials and briefs for communicating vision for gameplay pillars, core design ingredients and gameplay loops that are comprehensive, concise, and inspirational.
  • Collaborate with the Design, Art and Animation leaders to ensure alignment between the creative teams.
  • Partner with Production and Tech leadership to drive effective decision-making and a functional game development pipeline.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor our internal and external creative teams to establish successful partner relationships and shared practices.
  • Understand the impact and complexity of delivering outstanding gaming experiences across various game platforms and mediums.
  • Regularly play the game, providing constructive feedback and suggestions to members of the team.

 

Requirements:

  • 8+ years’ overall professional experience with credit as a Creative Director on at least one AAA ‘3rd Person’ Action game.
  • Strong experience in Game Design and leading Game Design teams.
  • Strong communication skills with an understanding of various creative disciplines (art, design, cinematics, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills and a love for efficient problem solving.
  • Passion for playing and making games.
  • Positive, direct, collaborative communication to help improve our shared vision and studio culture.
  • Flexible, adaptable approach with a constant appetite for new knowledge and experiences.
  • In depth knowledge of game industry current trends and methodologies relevant to game design and story telling.
  • An excellent understanding of the building blocks of content creation and establishing game play standards.
  • Ability to clearly communicate game mechanics, narrative, and overall game vision to a wide range of audiences.
  • Can help identify current or potential content creation problems and provide clear solutions.

 

Compensation Range, Currency USD:

  • Starting Pay Range: $144,700
  • Pay Range End: $268,700
