eBay is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) team, responsible for data infrastructure and lifecycle management. The role involves driving business impact through advanced data science, including ML bot traffic detection, customer profile building, and A/B testing enhancements. Key responsibilities include assisting with data science projects, developing models, implementing statistical models and machine learning algorithms, supporting experimentation and causal inference, optimizing big data queries with advanced SQL, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and staying updated on industry trends. This position requires a Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field, experience in model building and evaluation, proficiency in Python/R and relevant libraries, advanced SQL skills, experience with Hadoop/Spark on cloud platforms, and strong problem-solving and communication skills for conveying complex findings to non-technical audiences.

Job Description: Data Scientist - Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) Team at eBay

The Cloud Data Technologies (CDT) team at eBay is responsible for managing data infrastructure, including the experimentation platform and overseeing the end-to-end data lifecycle for all eBay data, from onsite to analytics use cases.

We are seeking a Data Scientist who is passionate about driving business impact through advanced data science methodologies to enhance decision-making speed and quality, producing actionable insights from data. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including:

  • ML driven bot traffic detection

  • Building customer profiles

  • A/B testing methodology enhancements such as interleaving tests, sequential testing, and Bayesian methods


 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in complex data science projects and model development.

  • Contribute to the implementation of advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms.

  • Support experimentation and causal inference tasks, including A/B and multivariate testing.

  • Conduct advanced SQL for big data query optimization.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and refine data solution requirements.

  • Stay updated on industry developments and suggest new technologies or methodologies.


Requirements:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.

  • Experience in building models and evaluating model performance.

  • Proficiency in Python or R, and relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, GBM).

  • Advanced SQL for big data query optimization.

  • Experience with Hadoop, Spark in cloud platforms.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and experience in deploying machine learning models in production environments.

  • Superb communication skills to convey complex findings to non-technical audiences.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$95,200 - $168,700

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
