Description
Creative Assembly is looking for an Environment Art Director to join our talented team to work on our new project, a sequel to Alien:Isolation. This role will be based at our studio in Horsham, West Sussex and can be offered as hybrid or in-studio. Further details can be discussed during the recruitment process.
As an Environment Art Director on the team, you will be responsible for directing teams of artists both internally and externally to shape the vision of our game world and deliver high-quality immersive environments on time and on budget.
What you’ll be doing
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
- Provide direction for the Environment and Lighting Art teams, ensuring alignment with the project overall goals and objectives.
- Direct & oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of top talent within the Environment and Lighting art teams. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth, providing mentorship and career development opportunities for team members.
- Direct the planning, scheduling, and execution of Environment and Lighting Art, ensuring that all tasks are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Work closely with the Art Director, Production team, and other Directors to ensure a cohesive artistic vision for the game.
- Review latest industry trends, tools, and techniques, and use this knowledge to drive innovation. Implement best practices and processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and creativity.
- Provide regular feedback on the team's work, ensuring that all work meets the required quality standards.
- Establish and maintain high standards for your teams, conducting regular reviews and providing constructive feedback to ensure that all work meets or exceeds expectations.
- Implement quality control measures to identify and address any issues promptly.
- Champion the company's vision, values, and culture within the team. Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and innovation
What we are looking for:
- At least 5 years of leadership experience in the video game industry with significant UE5 experience in environment and/or lighting art creation
- Experience leading and managing teams of artists, including providing feedback & mentoring
- Excellent interpersonal and team management skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including artists, designers, and engineers
- Self-motivated with a can-do attitude with a positive team work ethic
- Keen artistic eye with attention to detail, combined with an understanding of colour theory, composition, and main principles of visual storytelling
- Knowledge of art direction and visual storytelling, with the ability to use environment art to convey narrative and emotion
- A thorough understanding of modern environment art pipelines with working knowledge of modern 3D software
- Strong awareness of industry technology trends
- Passion for the player experience
Optional Extras
- Exceptionally talented and motivated artist with strong traditional art skills and formal art education
- Familiarity with procedural generation tools and techniques for diverse game environments
- Experience with level design and gameplay mechanics, with the ability to design and create game spaces that are both visually stunning and engaging to play
- Familiarity with game optimisation techniques, with the ability to balance quality and performance to create immersive environments that run smoothly on a variety of hardware configurations
