Job Description

The Lead Audio Designer will be responsible for creating exceptional sound design for complex gameplay systems and linear sequences. Collaborate with the Audio Director and other creative partners to define the project's vision, including the soundscape, and audio systems. The role involves designing and scripting audio control logic, creating and managing various audio assets, leading recording sessions, debugging audio logic issues, mixing and mastering assets, and mentoring junior audio designers. This position is crucial for delivering high-quality audio experiences within the game, requiring close collaboration across multiple teams. The role will also involve regular play sessions for quality assurance.
Must have:
  • 5 years of experience in AAA sound design.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Wwise, Unreal, and Perforce.
  • Proficiency in visual programming.
  • Proficiency in audio scripting (Python, SQL, or Lua).
  • Proficiency with DAWs and sample editors (Pro Tools, Reaper).
  • Proficiency in mastering for linear and non-linear media.
  • Experience recording and implementing foley and ambience.
  • Experience directing walla groups in recording studios.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • A love for making and playing games.
Good to have:
  • Experience working on sports games.

What We Need

 

2k Sports Lab is looking for a curious and adventurous audiophile to join our development team as a Lead Audio Designer. You will be responsible for delivering extraordinary sound design that supports both complex, non-deterministic gameplay systems; as well as linear, non-interactive sequences. In collaboration with our Head of Engineering and Audio SEs, you will help define our audio systems, asset pipeline, and tool set. Finally, you will work with the Audio Director and other creative partners to help define the vision for the project.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with the Audio Director to help define the direction for the project’s soundscape.

  • Design and script audio control logic.

  • Create, manage and implement walla, foley, crowd reactions, world ambience, music, UI SFX and all other non-VO related audio. Implement and manage any associated databases.

  • Lead field recordings for foley, crowd reactions, and other ambience. 

  • Lead remote & onsite recording sessions of walla groups.

  • Debug and problem solve issues with the audio logic. 

  • Mix and master audio assets and systems.

  • Drive quality at both the implementation stage, as well as through regular play sessions.

  • Mentor junior audio designers and share knowledge with the rest of the audio team.

  • Work closely with other game areas to improve workflows, optimize asset pipelines, and achieve our combined vision for the game.


 

What Will Make You A Great Fit

  • 5 years’ experience in AAA sound design.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • Proficiency with Wwise, Unreal, and Perforce.

  • Proficiency in visual programming. 

  • Proficiency in audio scripting, with expertise in a language such as Python, SQL or Lua.

  • Proficiency with DAWs and sample editors such as Pro Tools and Reaper.

  • Proficiency in mastering for linear and non-linear media.

  • Experience recording and implementing foley and other ambience. 

  • Experience working in recording studios directing walla groups. 

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high quality in an efficient manner.

  • A love for making and playing games.

  • A resume of work that demonstrates these qualities.

  • Located in the Vancouver area or willing to relocate.
