Job Summary

Job Description

This Manufacturing Engineer role at Applied Materials involves developing, implementing, and maintaining manufacturing processes for parts, components, and assemblies. The engineer will coordinate product improvements, estimate costs, define tooling, and apply DFx principles to enhance quality and reduce costs. Key tasks include developing test procedures, analyzing operational data for continuous improvement, and performing root cause analysis. The role also focuses on implementing digital work instruction platforms and collaborating on automation and process optimization using data-driven tools and MES systems.
Must have:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Coordinate product improvements and new product releases with engineering.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and recommend tooling.
  • Apply DFx principles to reduce costs and improve product quality.
  • Develop and use test procedures and define test specifications.
  • Gather and evaluate operational and test data for continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate work methods, procedures, and policies.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining business processes.
  • Perform root cause and corrective action analysis for assembly/test issues.
  • Conduct Process Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (PFMECA).
  • Implement digital work instruction platforms.
  • Collaborate on automation opportunities in assembly and test processes.
  • Utilize data-driven tools and MES systems for process optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and maintains methods, operation sequences, and processes in the fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies.
  • Interfaces with other engineering functions to coordinate the release of product improvements and/or new products. Launches, releases, approves, and implements or issues engineering change requests as required to support design engineering and Operations with new and existing products.
  • Estimates manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements. Uses DFx principles to reduce manufacturing and/or product costs and improve delivered product quality.
  • Develops and uses test procedures, including assisting with the definition of test specifications with design/software engineering. May work with test engineering on the design and development of test fixtures. May assist in the coordination of test fixture sourcing activities.
  • Gathers operational and test data and evaluates results; may take corrective/continuous improvement actions.
  • Evaluates work methods, procedures, and policies. Participates in the development and maintenance of new and existing business processes; updates as necessary to ensure current practices are documented.
  • Determines root cause and corrective action analysis for issues that arise during assembly and/or test of systems; provides failure analysis report as required.
  • Performs Process Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis when working with New Product Development.
  • Implements digital work instruction platforms and supports transition from paper-based documentation to interactive digital formats.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities in assembly and test processes, contributing to improved efficiency and reduced manual errors.
  • Utilizes data-driven tools and MES systems to monitor real-time production metrics and support predictive maintenance and process optimization.

Other Requirements:

This position may require standing for extended periods of time, walking, working in tight spaces, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, lifting, the ability to distinguish between colors, the ability to work in an environment with noise that may be difficult for some individuals with sensitivity to noise, and the use of hand and power tools.

Additionally, because this position also may involve working in a clean room, the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment such as coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, chemical aprons, and face shields may be required.
