ABOUT ULTIMATE STUDIO

Ultimate Studio is a Melbourne based games studio on a mission to build remarkable long lasting games. To do this we want to bring passionate and talented people together, and give them the resources, time and space to focus on building games. We are currently looking for driven developers to join our experienced teams to help shape and build two high fidelity action PC games using Unreal Engine. Ultimate Studio is also a remote first workplace built on trust that caters for flexible working hours.

As a Rigger, you will play a crucial role in creating rigs that facilitate stylised and expressive animation for characters and objects in our games. You will collaborate closely with animators, artists, and designers to understand movement requirements and implement rigs that meet the project’s needs. This full-time position requires a deep understanding of rigging techniques, proficiency in industry-standard tools and software, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with animators, artists, and designers to understand the requirements for movement and animation across the game.
  • Create and implement rigs that facilitate, stylised, expressive animation.
  • Build and maintain skeletons, controls, and deformation systems.
  • Ensure proper articulation, skinning and weighting of models to achieve appealing deformations during animation.
  • Work closely with the animation team to troubleshoot and resolve rigging issues.
  • Work within an established rigging pipeline, in accordance with internal character rig standards.
  • Develop tools and scripts to streamline the rigging process and improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with technical artists and programmers to integrate rigs into the game engine.
  • Test and iterate on rigs to achieve optimal performance and visual quality.
  • Provide support and guidance to animators on rig functionality and usage.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in character rigging techniques.
  • Document rigging processes and create guidelines for the animation team.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain the rigging pipeline for efficient character rigging processes.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the overall animation pipeline.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A portfolio demonstrating previous rigging work and technical proficiency in character rigging techniques.
  • Proven experience as a Rigger or similar role in the gaming industry.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard rigging tools and software, such as Autodesk Maya, Blender, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine for integration of rigs and understanding of real-time animation constraints.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, kinematics, and biomechanics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python scripting is a plus.
