Job Description

As a 3D Rigger, you will be responsible for creating high-quality 3D skeletal rigs for video games. You will collaborate with the Art Director and Animators to finalize 3D skeletons, provide rigs for review, and address feedback. You will also work with 3D Animators to fix any rig-related issues and ensure the final skeletal armatures meet the needs of 3D animators and Tech Artists. You will be expected to communicate with Producers and the Art team, manage workload, and maintain organized working files.
Must have:
  • 3+ years of 3D rigging experience in interactive media/video games.
  • Expert knowledge of Maya’s rigging toolset.
  • Basic understanding of animation and anatomy to test rigs.
  • Ability to interpret and follow reference material.
  • Good understanding of FK/IK systems, foot roll, pivot, and tilt setups.
  • Strong problem-solving methodology.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
Good to have:
  • Writing MEL scripts.
  • Good grasp of basic skinning/rigging and/or animation.
  • Understanding of game development pipelines.
  • Loves video games and making them!
  • Shipped title that includes your work.

Job Details

We are looking for motivated and passionate 3D rigging experts to join our team! As a kickass 3D rigger, you should be a highly artistic and analytic person with a passion for creative technologies. The 3D rigger will be responsible for creating high quality 3D skeletal rigs designed for video games. You enjoy working as part of a team, but have a proactive approach with a hunger to take responsibility on an individual level.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce high-quality skeletal structure and rigged systems for 3D models and characters
  • Collaborate with Art Director and Animators to finalize 3D skeletons for each project; provides rigs for review at appropriate stages and applies feedback accordingly, with quick turnaround.
  • Work closely with 3D Animators to help fix any bugs, intersections caused by the rig, or unnatural movements.
  • Ensure final skeletal armature are technically compliant to the needs of 3D animators and Tech Artists, takes revision as necessary while still meeting quality standards
  • Communicate with Producers and the Art team to ensure art quality deadlines are met.
  • Project, manage, and maintain well-organized working files to facilitate file sharing and collaborative work
  • Manage workload and milestone requirements by following and/or determining task priorities, time estimates, and scope while proactively raising issues to the team as needed.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years practical 3D rigging experience working in interactive media/video game setting (or a strong portfolio equivalent)
  • Expert knowledge of Maya’s rigging toolset    
  • Basic understanding of animation and anatomy to be able to test out rigs    
  • Ability to interpret and follow reference material to create detailed and accurate models, with a strong know-how on clean topology geometry
  • Possess good understanding of FK/IK systems (switching and stretchiness), foot roll, pivot, and tilt setups, and their controllers
  • Strong problem-solving methodology
  • High work ethics and open-minded attitude with excellent communication skills in English, including the ability to give, receive, and solicit constructive written, verbal, and other feedback.

Pluses

  • Writing MEL scripts to customize software to specific animation requirements is a huge plus
  • Good grasp of basic skinning/ rigging and/or animation
  • A good understanding of the pipeline for game development
  • Loves video games and making them!
  • A shipped title that includes your work would be really awesome
