HB Studios seeks a Senior 3D Character Artist to collaborate on their PGA TOUR 2K Golf series. Responsibilities include collaborating on asset pipelines, developing hyper-realistic character clothing, creating high and low-poly models using advanced techniques, participating in team meetings and art reviews, developing procedural assets, working with technical artists, and mentoring junior team members. The ideal candidate will have 4-6+ years of experience in character art with strong clothing creation skills, proficiency in industry-standard software (Maya, ZBrush, Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter, Photoshop), and a deep understanding of human anatomy, rigging, weighting, UVs, and texture layout. Experience with hair creation is a plus.

HB Studios is a driving force in the creation of sports video games and the studio behind PGA TOUR 2K Golf – presently working on Console and PC. We are seeking a Senior 3D Character Artist to join our team of developers, creators, and enthusiasts who are passionate about the art and process of video game development. In this role, you will collaborate with professionals to build and maintain striking character art that breathes life into one of the fastest growing sports game series in the industry!

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Art Manager to visualize and develop asset production pipelines while driving the team in a cohesive direction to ensure all assets are produced to the highest quality standards.
  • Develop hyper-realistic character clothing and collaborate with all other artists to ensure work meets goals and expectations set out by production and leads.
  • Create high and low-poly models using groundbreaking techniques and pipelines and maintain the finished models throughout the lifespan of the project.
  • Build positive relationships and participate in team meetings and art review sessions to achieve the highest fidelity assets possible.
  • Work with the development team to prioritize and develop procedural assets to optimize art processes, workflows, and pipelines.
  • Work closely with Technical Art on accurate functionality of final Character assets.
  • Respond to direction with an open-mind and eagerness to refine character art to ensure quality and applicability of the game.
  • Mentor and facilitate learning with team members on standard methodologies as well as tools, techniques, and pipelines.
  • Research industry developments and explore new tools and techniques to improve efficiency and content production.
  • Write and maintain documentation of workbooks on Confluence.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Typically, 4 to 6+ years of industry experience with a focus on Character Art with outstanding clothing creation abilities.
  • Demonstrated technical experience working with art tools and programs (i.e. Maya, ZBrush, Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter, and Photoshop).
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of 3D modeling trends and pipelines.
  • Proficiency with Project Management (Shotgrid, Jira, Confluence) & Source Control (Perforce or GIT) software.
  • Solid understanding of human anatomy for modeling with a keen eye for shape and silhouette.
  • Solid understanding of rigging, weighting, UV, and texture layout.
  • Proven experience making Hairs is a plus.
