Microsoft AI is seeking a Software Engineer II to join their Platform Team, responsible for powering services like Copilot, Bing, and Edge. This role involves building low-latency, globally scalable services using .NET, ASP.NET, and C#. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and debugging services in a production environment, collaborating with partner teams, and mentoring junior engineers. The ideal candidate will have experience with managed code, production debugging, and A/B experimentation. Must have:

Overview

The Microsoft AI organization in Microsoft is several thousand software engineers strong, working on Copilot, Bing, Edge browser, Maps, Ads, News and other projects. We are the Platform Team that powers all our services and work with hundreds of developers across multiple products and services.

 

We are seeking a Software Engineer II (Microsoft AI) to join a team of smart and passionate engineers to bring products from inception to production. We strongly believe that collaboration enables better products, so you will work closely with Product Managers and other engineers to design solutions. As our applications continue to evolve, you will have a significant voice in deciding which best practices and tooling we adopt.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with written managed code for customer-facing services 
  • 2+ years of experience with debugging code in a production system 

 

Other Requirements

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLM) integration.
  • Ability to leverage Berkeley Packet Filter (BPF) etc. for performance tuning.

 

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Responsibilities

As an engineer on the Platform team, you will help build services that power online experiences across Microsoft AI. You will also get to work with engineers across different parts of the organization.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Build extremely low-latency services that can scale dynamically and are deployed globally.
  • Implement these services in .NET, ASP.NET, C#.
  • Familiarity with A/B experimentation and a forms of statistical analysis.
  • Debug services in production and being able to read memory dumps and stack traces to identify issues.
  • Collaborate with partner teams that deliver experiences like Copilot, Multimedia Search and Advertising to deliver platform-level features across all of them. 
  • Design, write and implement services with performance, efficiency, re-usability, and maintainability as core focus. 
  • Mentor engineers in the team by providing hands-on assistance, best practices, and promoting an inclusive learning environment.
