Sr. Software Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer at Coupa, you will lead the design and development of new architecture and major functional upgrades for the Coupa Platform. You will develop expertise in the entire Coupa application suite. You will collaborate across teams to plan and deploy product releases. This role requires a strong leader with extensive technical experience, an analytical approach, and strong communication skills. Responsibilities include leading design, advocating for architectural standards, documenting solutions, collaborating with leadership teams, providing technical guidance, and ensuring successful software development and deployment.

Must Have

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Experience with SaaS web applications using modern frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML5.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.

Good to Have

• Familiarity with LLMs and experience building generative AI agents.
• Full stack web development expertise.
• Experience with web-accessibility/WCAG standards.
• Passion for latest frontend trends.

The Impact of Sr. Software Engineer to Coupa:

As a member of the development group, you will become part of a team that develops and maintains one of Coupa’s software products, developed using Ruby and React, built as a multi-tenant SaaS solution on all Cloud Platforms like AWS, Windows Azure & GCP. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate across software products with engineers all over the company and the globe to plan and deploy product releases We expect that you are a strong leader with extensive technical experience. You have a well-founded analytical approach to finding solutions, a strong sense of responsibility, and good communication and planning skills. You are proactive in your approach and a strong team player.

•  Lead the design and development of new architecture and major functional upgrades for the Coupa Platform
• Develop expertise in the entire Coupa application suite to enhance application and data frameworks
• Follow Coupa's iterative development processes to deliver value with each release while driving the long-term technical vision
• Act as a resource for architecture standards and patterns, advocating for their correct usage
• Document solutions using existing standards and create new templates when needed, and present them for review and approval
• Collaborate with Engineering and Product leadership teams to design major releases and participate in defect analysis for maintenance releases
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, designers, and developers
• Engage with cross-organizational teams to ensure the success of software development, implementation, and deployment

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, systems analysis, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of software development with building enterprise, SaaS web applications, preferably contingent workforce applications, using modern frameworks technologies such as Ruby on Rails, ReactJS, SQL, and Typescript, and strong knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, HTML5
• Familiarity with LLMs (like OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models) and experience building generative AI agents or workflows is highly desirable
• Full stack web development expertise with hands-on experience building responsive UI, Single Page Applications, reusable components, with a keen eye for UI design and usability
• Experience with web-accessibility/WCAG standards, i18n best practices, cross-browser compatibility, and performance
• Passion for keeping up with the latest trends in the Frontend developer community and eagerness to bring in the outside-in thinking in the products we build
• Strong knowledge of APIs and integration with the backend
