Must have:

Job Description:

You will collaborate to develop ideas/thoughts into physical reality! Architecture & Facilities Engineering (A&FE) is looking for a Staff Structural Engineer to support the development and sustainment of assets and projects we support throughout the Disneyland Resort. You will provide technical expertise, problem solving, and QA/QC for projects we support throughout the Disneyland Resort.  Our department supports a wide range of project types that include shops, attractions, hotels, entertainment, maintenance facilities, offices, and nearly any built facility and area development found on our property. Projects range from preliminary research, full facility assessments to minor renovations and new facilities. You will also support immediate response efforts. You will work in close collaboration with architects, other engineering disciplines and multiple internal Disney project teams.

As a Staff Structural Engineer in A&FE, you will assist in capital projects and sustaining efforts for the Disneyland Resort. You will plan, conduct, and develop/research complex projects necessitating the origination and application of new and unique approaches. You will assist in the development and implementation of multiple building assessment programs as well as provide recommendations for repairs.

This is a 100% onsite position located in Anaheim, CA.

You will report to the Sr. Manager – Civil/Structural Engineering.

What You Will Do

Structural Engineer Sustaining Support (Primary Role)

  • Provide Structural support to the resort as a subject matter expert in the field.

  • Lead scope development of all IFP (Integrated Facility Planning) projects for current and future fiscal year project planning. Will include site walks, written scope development and justification, code research, production of plans and sketches.

  • Provide details to address repair solutions, material specifications, and issues.

  • Provide technical support for Legal claims.

  • Lead the maintenance & updating of Disney Standards and details.

  • Provide initial review for compliance of proposed space planning efforts/tenant improvement support/workspace options.

  • Provide plans, sketches, and details as requested by project partners.

  • Lead efforts with Quality Control/Quality Engineering (QE/QC) Team at each registered attraction to perform regulated structural inspection (including steel corrosion/fireproofing/connection/other indications, wood decay/termite/crack/other indications, concrete spall/crack/exposed rebar/other indications), direct to repair critical finding timely, and provide disposition for other findings properly scheduled for future rehabs.

  • Lead efforts Quality Control/Engineering Services Team to assess resort wide light poles, bridges, retaining walls, underpass, gates, speaker poles, projector poles, overhead fixtures, and others.  Direct to repair or replace as required.

  • Lead efforts with Safety Team to assess resort wide fall protection installations, review fall protection procedure and approve proposed access proposals.

  • Lead efforts with the Emergency Response Team to prepare Engineering Earthquake Response Program, drill plan, mobilizing post-earthquake inspection, participate in Earthquake Early Warning program.

  • Respond timely to structural assessment request resort wide, including vehicular collisions, reported indications, and others.

  • Participate in the development of corporate wide standards, including structural engineering, overhead object and rigging system, rockwork, and others.

  • Lead efforts with Technical Services, Special Event Team to review and approve show performance installation, event stage/tent and marquee erection, and others.

  • Lead efforts with Resort Enhancement Team to review seasonal installation.

  • Lead efforts with Horticultural Team to review tree guyed wire installation, berm access safety, retaining wall, and others.

  • Lead efforts with Hotel Engineering Services to resolve structural request at pool, water slide, loading dock, port cochere, trellis, and others.

  • Lead efforts with Parade Team at float, warehouse, rigging system, and others.

  • Respond to Cerritos, Lewis, and Miller Warehouse for structural assistance requests.

  • Coordinate with Caltrans for regular inspection at Disneyland Drive bridge and flyover.

  • Support FAM/WDI projects.

Structural Engineer (Secondary Role)

  • Influence the Structural direction of the Walt Disney Company.

  • Develop varied facility design project work at all stages of assigned projects from concept, feasibility, or schematic design through the preparation of construction documentation in accordance with established Disney quality standards.

  • Develop project concepts with internal stakeholders and partners.

  • Determine team required to fully execute project.

  • Develop project scopes of work for internal Architects/Engineers/Project Partners.

  • Resolve design issues creatively and thoroughly coordinating design with other disciplines.

  • Manage and execute the design and development of project construction drawings and specifications with internal resources as the Engineer of Record.

  • Create drawings and specifications that comply with applicable codes, standards, and statutes.

  • Coordinate all disciplines within each project.

  • Leverage your technical expertise and lessons learned when creating all projects.

  • Respond to city plan check comments and questions.

  • Respond to all RFI’s and submittals with AOR/EOR.

  • Provide punch walk list to the GC and FAM partners.

  • Prepare and gather all project documentation for closeout.

  • Work with stakeholders to provide structural resources, both technical and aesthetic, to develop project scope including design, planning and code compliance for estimation and feasibility.

What We Look For

  • Professional design experience in a wide range of project types and construction types as the sole engineer or leading a team of engineers.

  • Demonstrate familiarity with all phases of design and construction practices and standards.

  • Ability to assess different types of structures damages and/or deficiencies.

  • Construction Administration experience including site observation, review of RFIs and Submittals.

  • Direct experience in the preparation of structural contract drawings and specifications.

  • Collaborate and endeavor in a team environment to guarantee a successful product.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite is required.

  • Extensive knowledge of the California Building Code, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, ACI 318, NDS, AISC, and TMS.

  • Experience developing custom details to support unique facility design conditions.

  • Demonstrate leadership, team building skills, and mentoring young professionals.

  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills and time management/organizational skills.

  • Strong written, verbal, and graphical communication skills with the ability to present complex analyses and issues to all levels of executive management.

  • Demonstrate the ability to respond effectively to dynamic situations and personalities.

  • Must be capable of working independently on programs and projects but must have the maturity to seek guidance/approval and communicate as appropriate.

  • Ability to direct and motivate work efforts of others and handle high pressure situations.

  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, often against tight deadlines.

Required Education and Qualifications

  • BS Civil Engineering, BS Structural Engineering, or BS Architectural Engineering.

  • 10+ years professional experience working in Structural Engineering.

  • Civil PE License in the State of California is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SE License in the State of California.

  • MS Structural Engineering.

The hiring range for this position in Anaheim, CA is $123,000.00 to $152,500.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographical region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
