The Storyboard Supervisor is the creative lead for storyboarding at DNEG, collaborating closely with directors and producers. Responsibilities include overseeing and directing the storyboard team, advising on conceptual stages, guiding scripts, managing creative ideas, working with editorial on animatics, fixing story panels, ensuring artist task clarity, and supervising delivery expectations. The role involves participation in pitches and launches, task allocation, flagging issues, and scheduling with the producer. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in animation, strong drawing skills (characters and action), and an excellent understanding of narrative structure, staging, layout, character development, timing, and camera work.

Le Superviseur Storyboard est le responsable créatif du département storyboard. Il travaille en étroite collaboration avec le réalisateur et les producteurs pour créer des storyboards représentatifs du projet. Il est également chargé de superviser, guider et diriger l’équipe d’artistes storyboard.
Une expérience en storyboard pour l’animation est indispensable, avec une bonne compréhension de la narration visuelle. Un sens aigu de la mise en scène cinématographique et la capacité à proposer des solutions créatives aux problèmes de scénario sont également essentiels.
Responsabilités
- Superviser et diriger l’équipe de storyboarders.
- Apporter des conseils dès les premières étapes de conception, lorsque cela est pertinent pour l’histoire.
- Adapter les scripts pour mieux servir la narration si nécessaire.
- Gérer de manière créative les idées proposées au réalisateur.
- Travailler en étroite collaboration avec le département éditorial pour construire des animatiques fonctionnelles.
- Intervenir ponctuellement pour corriger des plans storyboard qui ne fonctionnent pas.
- S’assurer que les artistes comprennent clairement les tâches qui leur sont assignées.
- Capacité à travailler aussi bien de manière collaborative qu’indépendante.
- Superviser les groupes de storyboarders afin de garantir une bonne compréhension des attentes de livraison.
- Participer à tous les pitchs et lancements d’histoires.
- Assigner les tâches aux artistes storyboard.
- Signaler les problèmes éventuels et proposer des solutions à la production et au superviseur créatif.
- Travailler en étroite collaboration avec le producteur pour créer le planning, veiller au respect des quotas et des délais, et garantir que les storyboards soient réalisés dans le cadre défini du projet.
Qualifications
- 5 ans ou plus d’expérience en production sur des séries animées ou des longs métrages d’animation.
- Grande maîtrise du dessin de personnages et de scènes d’action.
- Excellente compréhension de la structure narrative, de la mise en scène, de la composition des plans, du développement des personnages, du rythme et du travail de caméra.
Veuillez noter qu’il s’agit d’un poste syndiqué qui sera couvert par une convention collective entre DNEG et l’IATSE dans les mois à venir. En tant qu’employé syndiqué, vous devrez adhérer au syndicat et bénéficierez des conditions établies dans la convention collective. Des cotisations syndicales seront exigées une fois la convention collective en place.
The Storyboard Supervisor is the creative leader of storyboarding. Working closely with the Director and Producers to create representative story boards for the project. The Storyboard Supervisor is responsible for supervising, mentoring, and directing the team of storyboard artists.
Must have animation storyboarding experience with a good understanding. A sense of filmic staging with an ability to offer creative solutions to story problems is also essential.

- Guide scripts for story purposes as needed.
- Creatively manage and introduce ideas to the Director
- Work closely with Editorial to build working animatics.
- At times will be asked to step in to fix story panels when they aren’t working
- Make sure Artists have clear understanding of tasking
- Capable of working collaboratively and independently
- Supervise groups of storyboarders so there is clear understanding of delivery expectations
- Be involved in all story pitches and launches.
- Responsible for task allocation to storyboarders.
- Flag any issues and solutions to Production and Creative Supervisor.
- Work closely with the Producer to create the schedule,ensure quotas/deadlines are achieved, and take care that storyboards and completed in such a way that the project remains within the contracted scope
Qualifications
- 5+ Years of production experience in Animation Episodic and or Feature Films
- Strong ability to draw character and action
- Strong sense of story structure, staging, layout, character development, timing and camera work.
Please note that this is a unionized position and will be covered by a collective agreement between DNEG and IATSE, in the coming months. As a unionized employee, you will be required to join the union and will benefit from the conditions set out in the collective agreement. Union dues will be required once the collective agreement is in place.
