Job Description

The Visual Development Artist will create visual concepts for new gameplay features, events, items, and environments, ensuring they convey the desired look and feel of Merge Mansion. The role involves translating ideas into visuals through design exploration, color schemes, and collaboration with Designers, Narrative, UI/UX, and other artists. Responsibilities include creating concept art, providing feedback during asset production, and taking visual ownership of features from ideation to visual quality assurance. The artist should have experience in making informed, player-centric art decisions, creating iterative concept sketches, and mastering art fundamentals for visually impactful artwork. Strong collaboration skills are also required.
Must have:
  • Experience in games, making player-centric art decisions
  • Create iterative concept sketches in high volumes
  • Take visual ownership of features end-to-end
  • Mastery of art fundamentals and color theory
  • Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration skills
Good to have:
  • Familiarity with animation principles in UI or game features
  • Familiarity with 3D software such as Blender, and Unity
  • Experience with mentoring
  • Prior experience working with outsource teams
  • Portfolio including early stage visual development work

We’re looking for an experienced Visual Development Artist with a strong Game and Concept Artist skillset, who can turn narrative and design briefs into visual concepts that are clear, appealing, and emotionally resonant. Joining the Merge Mansion team, you will collaborate closely with Art Leads, Game Designers, Narrative, and the Art team to bring Merge Mansion’s features, items, and environments to life. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of game development and visual development, and wants to apply their creativity to story-driven live games to engage, delight and retain our players.

Responsibilities

  • Creating visual development art and concept art for new gameplay features, events, items, and environments that effectively convey the desired look, feel, and mood of Merge Mansion
  • Turning ideas into visuals by exploring a variety of design approaches and color schemes
  • Aiding in the content pre-production and feature prototyping phases, working collaboratively with Designers, Narrative, UI/UX, and other artists
  • Collaborating closely with internal and external Artists to brainstorm and provide feedback throughout the Art asset production process, ensuring the highest quality

Requirements

  • Experience working in games and making informed, player-centric art decisions based on design, narrative, and product goals
  • Ability to create versatile and iterative concept sketches and explorations in high volumes, both for individual assets and full visual game experiences
  • Capability to take visual ownership of features, events, or small projects end-to-end – from early ideation and collaboration to moodboards, concept sketches, art feedback, and visual QA
  • Mastery of art fundamentals and color theory, resulting in visually impactful and harmonious artwork
  • Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration skills

In addition to these, it would be nice but not mandatory for you to have some of these as well:

  • Familiarity with animation principles in UI or game features
  • Familiarity with 3D software such as Blender, and Unity
  • Experience with mentoring
  • Prior experience working with outsource teams and giving actionable art feedback
  • Portfolio including early stage visual development work or prototype stage artwork, so we see your skillset in portfolio evaluation stage
