ByteDance's Doubao team is seeking an AI Research Engineer specializing in Large Language Models (LLMs). This role involves pushing the boundaries of LLM technology through innovative methods, tools, and experiments. You will work on developing and deploying downstream applications, contributing to research publications, and participating in open-sourcing efforts. You will work with cutting-edge technologies, collaborate with a global team, and have the opportunity to influence the development of impactful AI products.

Team Intro Founded in 2023, the ByteDance Doubao (Seed) Team, is dedicated to pioneering advanced AI foundation models. Our goal is to lead in cutting-edge research and drive technological and societal advancements. With a strong commitment to AI, our research areas span deep learning, reinforcement learning, Language, Vision, Audio, AI Infra and AI Safety. Our team has labs and research positions across China, Singapore, and the US. Leveraging substantial data and computing resources and through continued investment in these domains, we have developed a proprietary general-purpose model with multimodal capabilities. In the Chinese market, Doubao models power over 50 ByteDance apps and business lines, including Doubao, Coze, and Dreamina, and is available to external enterprise clients via Volcano Engine. Today, the Doubao app stands as the most widely used AIGC application in China. The Machine Learning (ML) System sub-team combines system engineering and the art of machine learning to develop and maintain massively distributed ML training and Inference system/services around the world, providing high-performance, highly reliable, scalable systems for LLM/AIGC/AGI. In our team, you'll have the opportunity to build the large-scale heterogeneous system integrating with GPU/NPU/RDMA/Storage and keep it running stable and reliable, enrich your expertise in coding, performance analysis and distributed system, and be involved in the decision-making process. You'll also be part of a global team with members from the United States, China and Singapore working collaboratively towards unified project direction. Responsibilities: - Design methods, tools to push forward the state of the art in LLM. - Conduct experiments, including designing experimental details, writing reusable code, running evaluations, and organizing results. - Implement relevant downstream applications. - Contribute to publications and open-sourcing efforts.
Qualifications
1. Published papers at top conferences like ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, RecSys and KDD. 2. Familiar with at least one of the mainstream deep learning frameworks, like TensorFlow, Pytroch or Jax; familiar with their underlying frameworks and implementation mechanisms. 3. Had experience of improving core recommendation algorithms in real products. 4. Good communication and technical leadership skills, able to mentor new graduates for working on short term applied research projects. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Solid foundation in Machine Learning such as optimization, sparsity, etc 2. certain understanding of training infra. 3. 【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $194000 - $410000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Our time off and leave plans are: 10 paid holidays per year plus 17 days of Paid Personal Time Off (PPTO) (prorated upon hire and increased by tenure) and 10 paid sick days per year as well as 12 weeks of paid Parental leave and 8 weeks of paid Supplemental Disability.
