Job Description Summary:

The Director of Cloud Engineering and Architecture will lead the development, migration and implementation of cloud-based solutions for PayPal's Large Enterprise Platforms (LEP - Braintree and PayPal Enterprise Payouts), and more. This is a 'hands on role' that involves collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure alignment of cloud architecture with business goals, driving innovation, and maintaining the highest standards of performance, security, and scalability.

This role is directly to the Head of Infrastructure Platform organization. This organization enables PayPal's Nextgen experiences to be accessible by 430M+ merchants and consumers in 200 countries. You will be joining a highly talented global organization that is responsible for delivering Global Network Services (Global Edge, Cloud networking, Backbone, DC Networks/NetSec, Corp Network, Telecom and Operations), Data Center Services (Physical Data Centers, and PoPs), Systems and Storage Services (Hybrid-Cloud Block, File, and Object storage Infrastructure), Compute Infrastructure (Physical, Virtual and Cloud compute infra engineering, SecOps), Hybrid-Multi-Cloud Center of Excellence (GCP, AWS, & Azure), and Business Units infrastructure (Xoom, Braintree and Hyperwallet).

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Leadership: 
       - Develop and execute a comprehensive cloud strategy aligned with the company’s business objectives with a focus on PayPal Core, Braintree and PayPal Enterprise Payouts. 
       - Lead the architecture and engineering teams in designing and implementing scalable, secure, and resilient cloud applications. 
       - Stay abreast of emerging cloud technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement and innovation. 

  • Architecture and Design: 
       - Define the overall cloud architecture framework, including infrastructure, application, and data architecture. 
       - Ensure that all cloud solutions adhere to best practices for security, performance, and scalability. 
       - Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design and implement cloud-native applications and microservices. 

  • Team Leadership and Development: 
       - Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of cloud architects and engineers. 
       - Foster a culture of partnership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team. 
       - Manage resource allocation, performance reviews, and professional development for team members. 

  • Collaboration and Communication: 
       - Work closely with leadership and peer principal architects and engineers to communicate cloud strategies, initiatives, and progress. 
       - Partner with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into effective cloud solutions. 
       - Establish and maintain strong relationships with external vendors and partners. 

  • Security and Compliance: 
       - Ensure that all cloud solutions comply with relevant security standards and regulatory requirements. 
       - Implement robust security measures to protect data and applications in the cloud environment. 
       - Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify and address vulnerabilities. 

  • Operational Excellence: 
       - Develop and implement processes and best practices for cloud operations, including monitoring, problem management, and disaster recovery. 
       - Optimize cloud costs and ensure efficient use of resources. 
       - Establish metrics and KPIs to measure and improve the performance and reliability of cloud applications. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. 

  • 10+ years of experience in cloud architecture, engineering, and management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. 

  • Proven experience with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud and Azure. 

  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices, and containerization (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker). 

  • Expertise in cloud security, compliance, and best practices. 

  • Enterprise in Global Network, Load balancers, Gateways, CDNs and other infrastructure technologies 

  • Experience operating physical on-prem infrastructure technologies (Cisco, Arista, F5, Palo, and/or relevant products) 

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are a plus.

$120300 to $287100
