As a Football Systems Operator, you'll work on-site at football stadiums across the UK and Europe, installing and operating Hawk-Eye technology for Premier League, Championship, and major international matches. Responsibilities include pre-match planning, setting up equipment (physically demanding), conducting system checks and calibration, liaising with stadium staff and officials, monitoring systems during matches, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining hardware/software. You'll initially focus on Goal Line Technology, with opportunities to expand to other services. The role requires long hours (weekends and evenings) and involves significant travel. Hawk-Eye provides training and encourages development.

📍Location: Based within the North East region of England

📝Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

💰Salary: A starting salary of £25,950 (+ up to 10% bonus). You will also have the opportunity to increase your salary as your experience and skills grow within the role.

🧳Travel: Regular travel across the UK & Europe. There will be occasional work at our head office in Basingstoke.

As a Football Systems Operator, you will be working on-site at football stadiums in your region, playing a key part in the delivery of our services to Premier League and Championship matches. As you gain experience in the role, you may be expected to be involved in more tournaments throughout the UK, Europe and further afield; such as the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and FIFA World Cups.

The role will encompass the installation and operation of our technology at matches, during which time you will be responsible for our systems. You will need to be prepared to work long days on weekends and midweek evenings, as we work whenever football happens.

Whilst we provide a number of services in top-flight football, you will initially focus on our Goal Line Technology service. You will gain exposure to various other services as you grow in the role and become a more experienced member of the team. 

We will equip you with the technical training, support and full exposure to our systems to perform your day-to-day tasks but also encourage development and progression to help make an impact on what we do.

What Does A Typical Day Look Like?🛠

  • Pre-match planning and driving the van to the stadium before match day

  • Setting up Hawk-Eye technology in the stadium (this can involve physically demanding work, such as rigging cameras and running cables)

  • Conducting pre-match set-up, checks and calibration of the systems in accordance with standard procedures

  • Liaising with stadium staff, match officials and host broadcasters on-site

  • Monitoring the systems during the match

  • Monitoring hardware and software performances, being able to troubleshoot and report encountered issues

  • Taking full ownership of our system on-site and being an ambassador for Hawk-Eye

  • During the off-season, building and maintaining our hardware and equipment

  • Assisting with the installation and testing of new products and services

What Difficulties Might I Face?🔦

Up to this point, I’m sure there have been many things that you find intriguing about the role, however, there can be difficult times:

Working Hours: Due to the nature of the sports industry, there is often work on weekends and midweek evenings and we are expected to fulfil our roles until the last ball has been hit. 

Travelling Abroad: You can expect to spend sporadic periods of the year working across Europe and potentially globally depending on the sports calendar.

High-Pressure Situations: Working in a live broadcast environment on a production distributed to millions worldwide will bring high levels of pressure. 

We will do our best to train and equip you to the best possible level to help with these but they must be considered before submitting your application.
