Responsibilities include developing, testing, and deploying SAS programs, maintaining and optimizing existing SAS code, and providing ongoing production support including monitoring and issue resolution.

  • SAS Base, SAS Macro, SAS SQL, SAS Enterprise Guide
  • SQL proficiency with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2)
  • UNIX/Linux shell scripting
  • Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Data management, extraction, and reconciliation
  • Minimum 4+ years of SAS developer experience
  • Production support experience

The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining SAS-based analytics solutions while ensuring the stability, performance, and security of SAS applications in a production environment. The ideal candidate will play a key part in supporting data-driven decision-making, troubleshooting issues efficiently, and collaborating across teams to ensure seamless operations that align with organizational goals.

Software Requirements

  • Required:

    • SAS Base, SAS Macro, SAS SQL, SAS Enterprise Guide (latest/or recent stable versions)
    • SQL proficiency with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or DB2
    • UNIX/Linux shell scripting — required for environment management and automation
    • Version control systems (e.g., Git, SAS Management Console) — preferred
    • Data warehousing concepts and tools — preferred
  • Preferred:

    • SAS BI tools such as SAS Visual Analytics or SAS Data Integration Studio
    • Scheduling and automation tools (e.g., SAS Management Console, Control-M)

Overall Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and deploy SAS programs and applications based on project requirements
  • Maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot existing SAS code for efficiency, accuracy, and robustness
  • Provide ongoing production support, including monitoring, issue resolution, and incident management to ensure high system availability and performance
  • Collaborate with data analysts, business users, and IT teams to understand data requirements and deliver analytical solutions
  • Validate, reconcile, and generate reports to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and governance standards
  • Document technical specifications, system configurations, and support procedures
  • Support deployment and upgrade activities for SAS solutions in production environments
  • Monitor scheduled and batch SAS jobs, troubleshoot failures, and implement corrective actions
  • Effectively communicate issues and resolutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Technical Skills (By Category)

Programming Languages

  • Required: SAS programming (BASE SAS, Macro, SQL) — essential
  • Preferred: Scripting languages (UNIX/Linux shell scripting) — preferred

Databases/Data Management

  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2) — required
  • Strong understanding of data management, extraction, and reconciliation processes — required

Cloud Technologies

  • Familiarity with cloud data environments (Azure, AWS, GCP) is a plus, but not mandatory

Frameworks and Libraries

  • SAS Data Integration Studio, SAS Visual Analytics — preferred

Development Tools and Methodologies

  • Version control (Git, SAS Management Console) — preferred
  • Agile/Scrum methodologies — required

Security Protocols

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience as a SAS developer, especially in a production support role
  • Proven track record supporting SAS applications within a live environment
  • Experience with troubleshooting, performance tuning, and incident management
  • Preferred experience working in financial, healthcare, or regulated industries

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Write, test, and optimize SAS programs to support analytics and reporting needs
  • Provide first-line support for SAS applications in production, resolving issues and outages promptly
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve failed jobs and system alerts
  • Collaborate with data analysts and technical teams to optimize data workflows and reporting processes
  • Assist in deploying updates, patches, and new solutions to SAS environments
  • Document technical issues, resolutions, and system configurations
  • Participate in incident reviews and root cause analysis to prevent recurrence
  • Conduct regular system health checks and ensure data security and compliance standards are met

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related field
  • Advanced SAS certifications (e.g., SAS Certified Data Scientist, Base Programmer) are preferred
  • Proven experience with SAS Development and Production support in enterprise environments
  • Ability to learn new tools and adapt quickly in a dynamic setting
