Job Description

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at Epic Games, you'll join the Anti-Cheat team, working on Epic's titles and various external games. You'll build testing tools and automation frameworks, identify areas for automation, and develop framework features for automated test creation. Responsibilities include designing complex test scenarios (including multi-user distributed automated testing), enabling automated test scripting, implementing automation best practices, tracking performance metrics, optimizing product verification, and collaborating with engineers and QA across teams. You'll also build relationships with internal stakeholders.
Must have:
  • Experience with automated tests and frameworks
  • C++ experience
  • Knowledge of game engines (Unreal Engine preferred)
  • End-to-end, functional, and unit testing experience
  • Collaboration & version control (Perforce, Git)
Good to have:
  • C#, Python, Typescript
  • Polyglot development experience
  • Database knowledge
  • Build/test orchestration tools (Jenkins, GHA)
  • Gameplay scripting & cloud infrastructure (AWS)

What We Do

The Quality Assurance team owns the testing process, risk management, and quality evaluation of all products and functions across Epic. Our team works closely with developers and production to ensure the best possible user experience for our community and customers.

What You'll Do

As a Software Development Engineer in Test, you will join our Anti-Cheat team and work with not only our titles but a wide variety of games from around the world. As a QA expert and developer who thrives at delivering results at scale, your primary role will be building testing tools and automation frameworks and collaborating to identify areas suitable for automated testing. You will develop test framework features to enable developers and testers to author automated tests. We are looking for teammates who are passionate about upstream technical testing while developing tools, automation, and capacity engineering to raise the quality bar while advancing your technical capabilities and knowledge.

In this role, you will

  • Work on a team that aims to grow test automation and scale services and tooling to meet the needs of Epic’s anti-cheat systems
  • Design, develop, and maintain test tools and automation frameworks
  • Plan, design and implement complex test scenarios, including multi-user distributed automated testing
  • Enable developers, testers, and analysts to author automation test scripts, implement automation best practices, and help lay the foundation of scalable automated test solutions
  • Track performance metrics, testing patterns, optimize product verification and release processes, collaborate with Engineers, QA, and other SDETs across teams and projects
  • Build relationships and partnerships with internal customers and stakeholders across Epic

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience owning design, implementation, deployment, and maintenance of automated tests and frameworks
  • Experience with C++ required, proficiency with C#, Python, Typescript, and other languages a big plus
  • Good knowledge of how game engines work; Experience working with Unreal Engine or another game engine
  • Experience with end-to-end, functional, and unit tests
  • Experience working collaboratively with team members on a common codebase using version control tools (e.g., Perforce, Git)
  • Experience with polyglot development, working between full-stack systems, examples could be something like a Game Engine and an Online Service team, a full-stack web application (service and frontend).
  • Knowledge or experience of the following is a plus: With databases, backend services and integrations Of build and test orchestration tools (e.g., Jenkins, GHA) and gameplay scripting systems And loud infrastructure (e.g., AWS)
