Job Description

As a Java engineer on the Application Services team, you will develop foundational applications, collaborate with other engineers, and design APIs. You will work on building blocks for a distributed payment platform, architecting resilient solutions, managing deployments, and tracking key metrics. Responsibilities include mentoring junior team members, researching how other engineers use the services, and contributing to a highly available and performant platform.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of backend software development experience
  • Proficiency in Java and JVM understanding
  • Experience with Postgres or similar databases
  • Proficiency with CI/CD and monitoring tools
  • Good understanding of distributed systems
  • Product-oriented approach to software development
  • Willingness to operate in a production environment
Good to have:
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems
  • Familiarity with security best practices
  • Working knowledge of secret management tools
  • Experience building internal products

With over 100 engineering teams contributing to our ecosystem, our platform engineering organization plays a vital role in providing a solid foundation for growth. As a key part of our platform engineering organization, the Application Services team is responsible for crafting platform-wide, business-agnostic capabilities and essential building blocks like secret management, service discovery, and a feature flag framework. What you will do

As a Java engineer working on Application Services, you’ll have the opportunity to work on the building blocks of a highly available, distributed payment platform. You will 

  • Develop foundational applications that almost every other engineering team builds into their services
  • Drive medium-sized development projects where you collaborate with other engineers and sync with stakeholders
  • Work with a product manager and other engineers to find out what common capabilities other teams need for their business applications
  • Design and evolve APIs that will be used by engineers across the company, partnering with them to identify pain points, opportunities, and areas for improvement
  • Architect resilient solutions that span multiple data centers, ensuring our platform remains highly available and performant
  • Manage deployment and monitoring of live applications, track key metrics to optimize performance and availability
  • Research how other engineers within Adyen use and interact with your work
  • Mentor junior team members

 

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend software development experience
  • Proficiency in Java and solid JVM understanding
  • Experience working with Postgres or similar relational databases
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and monitoring tools
  • A good understanding of distributed systems
  • A product-oriented approach to software development
  • Willingness to operate, deploy, and troubleshoot applications in a live production environment

 

Bonus points for

  • Experience working with large scale distributed systems 
  • Familiarity with security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and data encryption
  • Working knowledge of secret management tools, service discovery or feature flagging frameworks
  • Experience building internal products and services for other engineers as part of a platform team with focus on autonomy
