The Senior Staff Software Architect will be responsible for defining the architecture for future Snapdragon SoCs, focusing on power, thermal, and limits management. This role involves collaborating with various engineering teams to define and refine the architecture, considering trade-offs between hardware and software complexity. The architect will define software partitioning across CPUs and microcontrollers, create APIs, and translate system-level architecture into software designs and requirements. They will provide guidance to software teams, resolve issues, and support optimization efforts to ensure outstanding performance, battery life, and reliability for Snapdragon-based products across various categories, including smartphones, laptops, and automotive systems.   • 3+ years of experience with programming languages like C, C++, Java, or Python.
  • Experience in designing software for embedded or datacenter environments.
  • Strong expertise in modern operating systems and ARM64 architectures.

Good to have:
  • 10+ years of experience in designing software and firmware.
  • Experience in power, thermal and limits management at the system level.
  • Practical experience with in-lab debugging tools.

General Summary:

We are looking for talented and innovative engineers who can help define the architecture for future Snapdragon SoCs. In this role you will need to understand software and its role in a larger system comprising both software and hardware. You will collaborate with systems engineers, hardware architects, and software engineers to define and refine the architecture for power, thermal, and limits management. Customers expect Snapdragon based products to have outstanding performance, battery life, and reliability. You will be part of delivering an industry leading power, thermal, and limits management solution that makes this possible. Snapdragon SoCs serve many product categories including smartphones, laptops, wearables, XR, IoT, and automotive (telemetry, IVI and ADAS). In this role you will aim to create architectural solutions that can be applied across all these categories.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers from a variety of disciplines (systems, hardware, software, etc.) to define and document the power, thermal, and limits management architecture for future Snapdragon SoCs.
  • Represent the interests of software teams in architecture discussions to arrive at the right trade-offs in the architecture, e.g. between hardware complexity vs. software complexity, or unit cost vs. tuning effort, etc.
  • Define and document the software partitioning across the various CPUs and microcontrollers in the system; and define and manage APIs to support this partitioning.
  • Drive the process of converting the system level power, thermal, and limits management architecture into a software design and software requirements that can guide the software development teams.
  • Work with software teams to provide guidance on the architecture and design, to help resolve issues, and to support optimization and tuning activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 5+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

• 3+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in designing software and firmware for embedded or datacenter environments.
  • Experience in power, thermal and limits management at the system level or device driver level.
  • Strong expertise in modern operating systems, ARM64 architectures, and software development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with software standards for power and thermal management such as SCMI, PSCI, SystemReady, ACPI, and device tree.
  • Practical experience with in-lab debugging tools.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:

$162,600.00 - $244,000.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted.
