Sharkmob is seeking a UI Designer to contribute to their exciting new project, Exoborne. Responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams to design polished and intuitive user interfaces, maintaining a cohesive visual style, designing immersive UI elements that enhance storytelling, and incorporating motion graphics and animations. The ideal candidate possesses at least 3 years of professional experience in UI/UX design within the gaming industry, strong graphic design skills, proficiency in design tools (Adobe Creative Suite and Figma), and excellent communication skills. They should be passionate about gaming and have a strong portfolio showcasing UI design capabilities.

Good to have:
  • Experience implementing designs in-game

As a UI Designer, you will play a crucial role in crafting visually striking and user-friendly interfaces for our project Exoborne. With your strong foundation in graphic design and UI principles, you’ll work alongside multidisciplinary teams to create engaging, intuitive experiences that resonate with both players and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Directors, Game Designers, Programmers, and fellow team members to create polished and intuitive user interfaces that enhance gameplay and integrate seamlessly into the game world.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a cohesive visual style and design language for all UI elements, aligning with the game's overall artistic vision.
  • Design immersive UI elements that elevate storytelling, blending seamlessly into the game world and narrative.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and design techniques to continuously improve the quality and innovation of our UI designs.
  • Incorporate motion graphics and animations into the user interface to enhance interactivity and provide visual feedback to players. Create engaging transitions, animations, and dynamic elements that elevate the overall user experience.
  • Collaborate with the broader team to ensure that all UI designs are intuitive and accessible and enhance the overall user experience. While UX is a shared responsibility across the company, you will work closely with our UX experts to refine and elevate design decisions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in UI/UX design, especially in the gaming industry.
  • Strong graphic design skills, with a solid understanding of typography, color theory, and composition.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
  • A strong understanding of game development pipelines and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience designing UI assets for multiple platforms (PC, console), with an understanding of technical limitations and constraints.
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to give and receive constructive feedback, and the ability to communicate your design concepts and ideas to internal teams and stakeholders ensure clarity and alignment throughout the project.
  • A passion for gaming, with a deep appreciation for how UI/UX design impacts player engagement and immersion.
  • Unhindered in English, both written and spoken.
  • A strong, up-to-date portfolio showcasing a range of UI designs, including high-quality UI elements.

That little extra

  • Experience in implementing designs directly into the game.
  • Experience in motion design softwares such as After Effects.

Sharkmob was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Malmö, Sweden. We are currently working on  – a Sharkmob original game. We have previously released  – a battle royale shooter set in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe. We develop games for PC and console, using Unreal 5 to power our vision and ambition.

About The Company

Sharkmob is a game development company with studios located in Malmö, (Sweden) and London (UK).


Currently, we are working on two major projects: Exoborne – a Sharkmob original game created in Malmö, is a tactical, open-world extraction shooter set in a United States torn apart by apocalyptic forces of nature. The second project, developed in London, is another Sharkmob original IP yet to be announced. Our first game Bloodhunt - a battle royale set in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, was released on 27 April 2022. 

 

We are fortunate to work with things we are passionate about and we have the privilege of creating entertainment for others to enjoy. We believe that if we have fun making games, people will have fun playing them. Fun is also about daring to do mighty things that allow us to reach levels of achievement we otherwise can't. All things said we want a fun, professional experience & so we all must lead by example.


We want everyone to feel like they have a stake in the games we make. Our games are not the brainchild of a few people - we own them together. Everyone’s contributions, opinions, and feedback matter. For this to work everyone needs to respect the big picture and high-level goals of the project. Shared ownership is at the heart of the Sharkmob adventure.


We embrace a system of "disagree and commit". This means that we accept that we might not always get our way but we wholeheartedly support decisions we make as a team. Doing more with less and making an extra effort to find the optimal way forward is always valued. We rely on smart decisions to take us further than otherwise possible. Making games is kind of like rocket science; but harder!
