Skillz seeks a strategic Director of People Operations and Talent to lead and grow its Bangalore People function. This role involves building scalable processes, driving recruitment excellence, enhancing employee experience, and ensuring compliance with Indian labor laws. Responsibilities include managing onboarding, performance management, employee engagement, compensation, and offboarding. The ideal candidate will partner with leadership to define organizational structures and strategies, localize global policies, and improve employee retention through data-driven initiatives. Collaboration with global People teams is crucial. The position requires strong leadership, project management, and communication skills, along with experience in high-growth environments and a deep understanding of Indian labor laws.
Must have:

Job Description:

We’re looking for a strategic and hands-on Director of People Operations and Talent to lead and grow our People function in Bangalore. You’ll play a critical role in building scalable People processes, driving recruitment excellence, and enhancing the overall employee experience in alignment with regional needs and global standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all People Operations activities for the Bangalore office, including onboarding, performance management, employee engagement, compensation, compliance, and offboarding.
  • Partner with executive leadership to define organizational structures, workforce plans, and People strategies that align with business goals.
  • Drive end-to-end Talent Acquisition strategy and execution in partnership with recruiting teams, ensuring timely, high-quality, and cost-effective hiring.
  • Localize global People policies and processes to ensure compliance with Indian labor laws and alignment with cultural expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the employee experience and retention through thoughtful programs, manager enablement, and data-driven initiatives.
  • Develop and implement scalable, well-documented HR processes and systems to support a growing regional team.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with global People teams to ensure consistent experiences while honoring regional needs.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers and team leaders on performance, employee relations, and team development.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in People Operations, HR, or Talent leadership roles, with regional or global exposure.
  • Proven track record of building and leading People functions in high-growth or fast-paced environments.
  • Deep understanding of Indian labor laws, HR compliance, and local employment practices.
  • Ability to think strategically while also executing hands-on projects and improvements.
  • Demonstrated success in partnering with executive stakeholders and influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in scaling People programs, improving hiring quality, and reducing attrition.
  • Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with modern HR systems and tools (e.g., Workday, Greenhouse, Confluence, BambooHR) is a plus.
