As a Senior Level Designer, you'll create engaging gameplay experiences for a hybrid-casual mobile music audience. Responsibilities include designing, prototyping, and refining levels that seamlessly integrate music and gameplay mechanics. You'll collaborate with various teams (Product Owners, Game Designers, Artists, Developers) to ensure levels are fun, challenging, and meet project requirements. This involves creating level design documents, iterating on designs based on feedback and data, guiding junior designers, and staying updated on industry trends. You'll need strong level design, rhythm-based game design, and collaboration skills.

[GS team] Senior Level Designer (New Games - Hybrid Casual Games)

OBJECTIVES

  • As a Senior Level Designer, you will be responsible for creating engaging and memorable gameplay experiences tailored to a hybrid-casual mobile music audience.You will design, prototype, and refine levels seamlessly integrating music and gameplay mechanics. Working closely with Product Owners, Game Designers, Artists, and Developers, you will ensure that all levels are fun, challenging, and aligned with the project’s creative vision and technical requirements.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Level Design Creation:
  • Conceptualize, design, and implement high-quality levels that balance fun, challenge, and player progression.
  • Incorporate music-driven mechanics and rhythms to enhance the player experience.
  • Gameplay Integration:
  • Collaborate with Game Designers to integrate core mechanics into level designs.
  • Ensure smooth transitions between gameplay segments, fostering immersion and engagement.
  • and Testing:
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate on level ideas based on feedback from team playtest and data analysis.
  • Identify and resolve gameplay issues, ensuring levels are polished and optimized.
  • Documentation and Communication:
  • Create clear and comprehensive level design documents (e.g., layouts, flowcharts).
  • Effectively communicate design intentions and updates to cross-functional teams.

  • Guide Junior and Mid-Level Designers, fostering their growth and development.
  • Work closely with other departments (e.g., Product Owner, Artist, and Developer) to ensure levels meet aesthetic and technical standards.
  • Research and Innovation:
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and top-performing games.
  • Explore innovative ways to incorporate music into level design and enhance player engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience
  • 4+ years of experience in level design, with at least 1 year in a Senior role.
  • A portfolio showcasing your work, including at least one released project.
  • Experience in balancing challenge, accessibility, and player progression.
  • Experience in interpreting playtest data and adjusting designs accordingly.
  • Experience in designing levels for music games is a strong plus.
  • Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of level layout, pacing, and player psychology.
  • Deep knowledge of rhythm-based and hybrid-casual game design principles.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address gameplay and technical challenges.
  • Good at Feedback Reception and Constructive Criticism.
  • Pay Attention to Detail and Precision.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and top-performing games.
  • Familiar with industry-standard game design tools (e.g., Google Sheets, Jira, Confluence, Figma, etc.).
