Position Overview
As a 2025 Intern at the Autodesk Robotics Lab, you will conduct cutting-edge Robotics User Experience research aimed at bridging the gap between CAD, robotic assembly and other applications. Your role will involve storyboarding future workflows; interviewing users to identify pain points; collaborating with the team to develop and integrate UX prototypes with internal software stacks; and iterating based on feedback from end-users. You will contribute to new and innovative research and demonstrations in Robotics, AI, and Design, working with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and industry domain experts in the Autodesk Robotics Lab.
The Autodesk Robotics lab is committed to advancing robotics research through collaborations, software development, real-world prototypes, and publications at top-tier conferences like ICRA, CoRL, and RSS. Our research spans robotics, reinforcement learning, deep learning, computer vision, motion planning, simulation, human-robot collaboration, and more for the manufacturing and construction industries, combining the best of an academic environment with applied research. Our lab is located at the Autodesk Technology Center (Pier 9) in San Francisco, with an unbeatable view of the San Francisco Bay. This internship will be onsite.
Responsibilities
Conduct UX research, including user interviews, storyboarding, workflow analysis to understand challenges in cutting-edge robotic applications for manufacturing
Develop working UX prototypes and collaborate with a cross-functional team of scientists, engineers, and interns to integrate them into full-stack application workflows
Evaluate and improve existing robotics, perception and CAD-based automation workflows
Minimum Qualifications
Full-time student pursuing an BS, MS or Ph.D. in UX, Human-Computer Interaction, Robotics, Computer Science or an affiliated discipline in an accredited program with at least one academic term to complete post-internship
Proficiency in UX research methods, including interviews, storyboarding, and prototyping
Broad understanding of software development, with some experience in Python, Figma or similar UX design tool
An excellent communicator and a team player
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with robotics, CAD or CAM software
About the US Intern Program
The 2025 U.S. program runs for 12 weeks (May 19 – August 8 or June 16 – September 5). All internships are paid. As an intern, you will contribute to meaningful projects, be mentored by industry leaders, and participate in tech talks and other activities designed to support your personal and professional development.
