The New York Times Games Platform Group is seeking a Director of Production to lead the development of engaging digital puzzle games. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to establish central processes and best practices, drive the platform roadmap, identify and address pipeline issues, and mentor other producers. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in production management, strong leadership skills, and a passion for games and game development. You will also demonstrate a commitment to the New York Times' values of journalistic independence and a dedication to their mission of seeking the truth.

About the Role

The New York Times is looking for a Director of Production for our Games Platform. You will partner with multidisciplinary peers to create the backbone of games that delight audiences and further our creative and business goals.

At NYT Games, we aim to be the premier destination for digital puzzle games, and we publish human-made puzzles daily, including beloved games like Wordle, Spelling Bee, Connections, and the New York Times Crossword. Our games are played by tens of millions each week.

The Games team is based in New York City, but we are open to remote candidates. This role will report to the Executive Producer of Games.

NYT Games is not a traditional gaming company. While prior games/puzzles industry experience is preferred you must also uphold essential NYT values like trust, curiosity, and empathy, recognizing that independent journalism is core to everything we do.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish central processes and best practices for successful game development
  • Drive the roadmap for our Games Platform group in collaboration with Engineering Management and Product Management
  • Identify pipeline issues, propose, and implement solutions within the Platform group and across the Games team
  • Work across multiple squads to deliver a high impact games platform
  • Collaborate with leadership across Games and other missions to drive towards business objectives
  • Day to day tasking/scheduling in Jira and other cloud management systems
  • Develop and champion Production culture on the Games team
  • Mentor, manage and guide other producers on the Games team to complete complex initiatives and grow their careers
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of production experience
  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • A force multiplier whose work creates demand for higher quality outcomes from colleagues
  • Experience managing schedules and project workflows for large groups
  • Passionate about games and game development
  • Proficient in SaaS-based collaboration tools required to lead modern game teams, including G-Suite, JIRA, and more
  • Knowledge of journalism ethics and standards

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$165,000$180,000 USD
