Job Description

As a Senior Console Engineer at Epic Games, you'll enhance and maintain Unreal Engine's support for game consoles (Switch, Steam Deck, Sony, Microsoft). Responsibilities include analyzing and optimizing performance, extending the engine for future hardware, developing workflow tools, debugging console systems (CPU, GPU, peripherals), and collaborating with internal teams (Fortnite, Rocket League) and external customers. You'll work with cutting-edge gaming technologies and directly with console manufacturers. This role requires expertise in C++, multi-threaded programming, performance optimization, and various graphics APIs (Metal, Vulkan, DirectX).

  • Excellent knowledge of x86-64, ARM, AMD/NVIDIA GPUs

What You'll Do

We’re looking for experienced Senior Engine Programmers to help enhance and maintain the console platforms supported by Unreal Engine. You will be responsible for a variety of game consoles including Switch, Steam Deck, Sony and Microsoft platforms. You will work on a variety of systems including infrastructure, packaging, input, graphics, and general CPU tasks. You will often work with the latest technologies in gaming, working with console manufacturers to develop their software and hardware. Additionally you will collaborate with the many teams at Epic working on games like Fortnite, Rocket League, and special showcase projects.

In this role, you will

  • Analyze performance on and optimize for game consoles
  • Help us extend and enhance our engine for future hardware
  • Develop workflow tools for game consoles
  • Debug CPU, GPU, and/or peripherals of modern game consoles
  • Support external customers

What we're looking for

  • Strong C++ knowledge and multi-threaded programming techniques; ability to code and architect various core engine systems
  • Demonstrated performance and memory optimization skills. Self-motivated and able to dive into a complex system with quick results
  • Excellent knowledge of hardware architectures including x86-64, ARM, AMD GPUs, and NVIDIA GPUs
  • Excellent knowledge of a broad range of graphics APIs including Metal, Vulkan and DirectX, as well as shading languages such as HLSL and MSL
  • Familiarity with development tools and profiling on modern systems, including PIX, Razor, and renderdoc frame capture and profiling

This role is open to multiple locations across North America & Europe (including WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
