The Sr. Business Program Manager at Microsoft CO+I leads complex engagements with key datacenter suppliers, collaborating across business and engineering stakeholders to develop strategic partnerships. Responsibilities include leading multiple large-scale engagements to improve partnerships, balancing technical leadership and business judgment. This role requires a keen sense for stakeholder management, strategic thinking, detailed project management, and business acumen. The successful candidate will define best practices, drive process improvements, and ensure alignment between customers, the market, and internal stakeholders. They will also track project schedules, lead process improvements, and drive simplification and automation to increase efficiency and lower costs.

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation team (CO+I) is the team behind the Microsoft’s Cloud infrastructure and responsible for innovating, planning, designing, building and operating one of the largest datacenter fleets in the world. We support product teams by providing the secure and compliant, cost efficient and highly available global infrastructure that Microsoft’s customers depend on. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency and a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.

 

To keep up with rapidly changing customer and business demands, CO+I is looking for an experienced Sr. Business Program Manager who can lead complex engagements across key datacenter suppliers, collaborating across business and engineering stakeholders to drive strategic partnership development.

 

The successful candidate will be able to work independently, with little or no supervision, who thrives in ambiguity, with attention to detail, has an ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment to drive 360-partnership engagements. You will lead multiple large-scale engagements to improve mutual partnerships with suppliers, balancing technical leadership and business judgement. In this role, you’ll apply an analytical mindset and take a key role in driving strategies and workstreams to deliver stronger outcomes for both Microsoft, our suppliers, and customers. You’ll balance multiple internal and external stakeholders, driving your vision into holistic plans and execution across teams. This role requires a keen sense for stakeholder management, strategic thinking, detailed project management and business acumen.

 

This role is based in the Seattle / Redmond area. Relocation assistance is not offered for this role.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 6+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

 

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years experience in technical program management.
  • 6+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 6 years of supplier or customer-facing experience. Experience working within a business development organization is a plus.
  • Proficiency in use of process improvement methodology (ex. Lean, Six Sigma, and DMAIC-Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control).
  • Experience in successfully working with both technical and business subject matter experts across multiple organizational levels.
  • Proven ability to define customer-focused scenarios, author business cases and track value realization, and drive keen insights and identify opportunities to develop solutions.
  • Previous experience in data analytics/modeling and datacenter infrastructure management.
  • High proficiency in verbal and written communication, ability to interact with diverse groups across multiple organizational levels
  • Creative problem-solving & analytical skills to drive keen insights and understand root causes combined with a “sense of urgency” to develop solutions experience in delivering strategy and transformational programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence senior level cross functional teams

Business Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $115,000 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $146,200 - $219,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Work with team leaders on key programs and strategic initiatives to develop clarity on engagement scope and deliverables. Establish a results-oriented, metrics-driven programmatic approach to deliver strategic initiatives.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, driving assessments in collaboration with other teams, conducting competitive analyses, and examining customer and technology-related industry trends, as well as industry-specific requirements/regulations and opportunities.
  • Define best practices for business cases that drive long-term, integrated, cross-business solutions and roadmaps that improve business performance and mitigate risk, while driving innovation and collaboration with key suppliers to enable growth and scale.
  • Determine and lead large scale process improvements to quickly scope insights. Ensure alignment between the customer, the market, internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and the goals and strategy of Microsoft.
  • Drive simplification and automation to evolve processes, services, and solutions, to increase agility and efficiencies and lower costs.
  • Lead the tracking, coordination, and communication of end-to-end project schedules and plans. Establish and monitor processes, while driving accountability with stakeholders to follow the established schedule and processes.
